New MacBook Pros with Coffee Lake CPUs show up on Geekbench

Last year Apple refreshed its MacBook Pro line with 7th Gen Kaby Lake processors from Intel. This all occurred shortly before the rollout of Coffee Lake for laptops. Since then, Intel has rolled out its 8th Gen U-series, so as you would expect, a new slate of MacBook Pros are on the way. There are even some early benchmarks to prove it.

A new MacBook Pro featuring a Core i7-8559U processor has appeared on Geekbench. With this configuration, the laptop managed to score 4448 on the single-core test, and 16607 on the multicore test. The particular MacBook Pro also had 16GB of LPDDR3 RAM clocked in at 2133MHz. This was the 13-inch variant, so we will have to wait and see what the 15-inch has to offer. This is expected to be a hexa-core CPU with twelve threads.

This is the first time that the 13-inch MacBook Pro will have a quad-core CPU. That sort of horsepower was usually reserved for the 15-inch models, but that appears to be changing as Intel’s CPUs get more power efficient over time. This new model even outclasses the older 15-inch model that has an i7-7920HQ, by all intents and purposes, a faster CPU.

KitGuru Says: Whilst Intel may be a bit lackadaisical on the desktop CPU side of things, its hard to argue against their impressive laptop offerings. Are you interested in the upcoming line of MacBook Pros?
