Solo and Duo modes might be coming to Apex Legends

Respawn Entertainment shook battle royale fans with the surprise launch of Apex Legends, gaining over 10 million players in just three days. It looks as though the Titanfall-based shooter might take further inspiration from its competitors if dataminers are to be believed, as the developer has been working on Solo and Duo game modes.

Currently, Apex Legends pits twenty teams of3 against one another, as players choose between class-based characters called Legends. The game borrows many elements from Massive Online Battle Area (MOBA) titles like Dota 2 and League of Legends, by introducing six default and two unlockable Legends each with a unique tactical, passive and ultimate ability.

The free-to-play shooter has frequently been touted to have what it takes to challenge Fortnite: Battle Royale for the crown, but only if the game can grow in the right direction. It looks as though the developers have been working on that, mulling over the idea of Solo and Duo modes that allow players to play alone or partner with one other person.

Diving into the code, dataminers have uncovered references to ‘solo’ and ‘2-Man’ squads that have not yet been unveiled by Respawn Entertainment. While it’s likely that the developer is currently working on new game modes to add to the roster, it could similarly be possible that these game modes were considered and subsequently scrapped.

Solo is perhaps one of the most requested game modes within Apex Legends, with replies from Respawn CEO Vince Zampella making it look like it is on the cards. Not everyone is thrilled by the potential addition however, as many cite teamwork and the dynamic of abilities as the main attraction to the title.

It remains to be seen what Respawn has in store for Apex Legends moving forward, but its rapid growth certainly hasn’t showed any signs of slowing just yet.

KitGuru Says: Alternatively, Respawn could use limited trial modes similar to Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in order to test the water rather than outright splitting the player base. But more choice is usually a good thing, especially when Apex Legends is a tad bare at the moment. Have you been playing the Titanfall-based battle royale?
