Huawei’s P30 series will arrive next month

Like most smartphone manufacturers, Huawei will be making an appearance at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 at the end of this week. Despite this, it won’t be until the following month that it releases its next flagship, as Huawei’s P30 unveiling will take place on March 26.

Huawei is returning to Paris a year after it launched its renowned P20 range of smartphones in order to announce its upcoming P30 series. Embracing the French capital, Huawei’s teaser video hints at enhanced zoom capabilities on the P30, focusing on landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, and Notre-Dame de Paris.

This certainly lines up with Huawei’s tagline that “rules were made to be rewritten,” as zooming is often a function discouraged in photography and cinematography. Evan ‘Evleaks’ Blass  already let the cat out of the bag in December, stating that the Huawei P30 will house the capability of 5x lossless zoom. I imagine stabilisation will also be a function when zooming, helping to keep the camera steady.

The company has certainly placed emphasis on its camera technology since last year’s P20 Pro, followed up with the Mate 20 Pro at the end of last year. Blass has stated that the standard P30 “promises to be another imaging powerhouse,” as it continues the trend of a triple rear camera setup led by a 40MP lens and a 24MP front-facing selfie camera.

While this remains unconfirmed, it does reinforce the idea that the higher tier P30 Pro version is set to contain four rear cameras alongside various other improvements. Still, we won’t find out until next month, so it’s best taking this with a pinch of salt.

In the meantime, Huawei will draw attention to its foldable phone efforts at MWC on February 24. It won’t be alone though, as Samsung will also take to the event to elaborate on its own bendable device that is likely to make an appearance at its Galaxy Unpacked event tomorrow.

KitGuru Says: As good as the P30 is likely to be, I would still always recommend getting closer to a subject before resorting to zoom. That being said, it is a feature that could potentially save a lot of time and effort for hobbyists and those wanting to capture a quick memory. Are you looking forward to the Huawei P30 series?
