Cortana for Android has leaked early

A while back, Microsoft revealed that it would be bringing its Cortana virtual assistant app to both iOS and Android in addition to Windows Phone and Windows 10. The app has already been available for Windows Phone users for quite some time now but over the weekend, Android users got to experience the app for the first time after it leaked on to the web.

The app is not actually ready yet, though the app is due to release at the end of the month alongside Windows 10 so it should be fairly close to ready. If you have been a part of the Windows 10 Preview test, then you will already be familiar with many of Cortana's features. The app on Android retains much of the same functionality as the Windows 10 version, though not all of it.

Due to limitations on iOS and Android, the Cortana app will miss some features. On Windows Phone, Cortana is always listening out for the ‘Hey Cortana' command, while on iOS and Android, that won't be present. Cortana on Android also can't listen out for music, read emails or check parcel delivery information.

Cortana will be available officially on mobile devices in a few weeks time. However, if you use an Android device, you can find the .apk file floating around the web if you wish to try the app early.

KitGuru Says: If any of you are using an Android device and nabbed the early version of Cortana, let us know how it performs. It will be interesting to see how the app shapes up against the likes of Google Now and Siri.
