Video games are bigger than films and music combined

In a relatively short number of years the video games medium has transformed from a niche hobby to a multi-billion Dollar industry whose influence is being felt across all other mediums. In a new report, it has now been revealed that the video games industry is bigger than both films and music combined.

In a report discussing the ongoing acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, APNews called video games “a pastime that's bigger than the movie and music industries combined”. According to the report, more than 3 billion people play video games in some form or another – be it via console, PC or mobile (an increase of 1 billion since 2016).

By the end of the decade, the market is projected to grow further by 50%, totalling more than 4.5 billion players or greater than half the population of the planet by the year 2030.

It is interesting to see just how much limelight is being shone on the video games industry as a result of the Activision Blizzard acquisition.
