Xbox One adoption rises and UK sales hit 1 million units

Microsoft is off to a good start this holiday season, the company recently announced that it is steadily catching up to the PS4, having managed to sell 10 million units worldwide and adoption looks to be increasing here in the UK, with sales finally toppling 1 million units to customers.

This sales boost is likely helped by the fact that many retailers are running deals on the Xbox One with brand new titles like Assassin's Creed Unity, Halo The Master Chief Collection, Sunset Overdrive and Grand Theft Auto V. Additionally, Microsoft has been cutting the price of the Xbox One in the UK ever since Phil Spencer took over the division before the summer.

So far this month, the Xbox One has managed to consistently outsell the Playstation 4, which recently surpassed 13 million units sold worldwide. Xbox UK Marketing Director, Harvey Eagle, said that “We're seeing fantastic momentum with Xbox One having sold almost 10 million units to retailers worldwide. This momentum is reflected in the UK, particularly over the last three weeks, which is extremely encouraging as we approach the Christmas shopping period.”

According to Harvey Eagle the increased momentum this holiday is down to Microsoft's strong games lineup:

“People buy consoles to play the best games, and Xbox One is home to the best games. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is one of the highest rated next-gen console games released, Sunset Overdrive is the highest rated new franchise on any next-gen console, and Forza Horizon 2 is the highest rated driving game on any next gen console.”

It will be interesting to see if Microsoft can turn the tables on Sony moving in to next year as the company has a pretty strong lineup already announced including titles like Fable, Quantum Break, Halo 5 and Scalebound.

KitGuru Says: Many buyers are starting to see that Microsoft has a very strong lineup of games for the next year or so. Sony may have a stronger console but it doesn't seem to have as many compelling exclusives to back it up, which is starting to work against the company. However, I imagine Sony will pick up the pace a bit and raise excitement at E3 next year. What do you guys think of this?
