CES: ASUS announce ROG Strix SKT T1 Hero Edition laptop endorsed by League of Legends pro

While ASUS has taken CES by storm with its new displays alongside it entry into the Windows Mixed Reality platform, that’s not all the company has in store. Its Republic of Gamers line in particular is getting some new additions, a standout of which is the ROG Strix SKT T1 Hero Edition laptop endorse by League of Legends professional, FAKER.

“While most serious PC gamers save to get the most horsepower possible under the bonnet – not all players have the same demands. Sure, if you’re going to be buying all the latest Triple-A First Person VR Shooters etc, then you’ll want all the GPU/CPU power you can get – but the same criteria do not apply for LoL/DoTA,” describes ROG gaming marketing specialist, YiTing Liu. “FAKER wanted enough power to play at extreme frame rates, but not so much that the price and portability were affected. Enter the ROG Strix SKT Ti Gaming Laptop.”

The ROG Strix SKT T1 Hero Edition, a collaborative venture between ASUS and e-sports team SK telecom T1, specifically branded with League of Legends pro player Faker, whose signature appears printed at the bottom right of the palm rest.

It sports a 1080p 15.6-inch IPS display with a wide-viewing angle of 178-degrees, 120Hz refresh rate and 100 percent sRGB. Under the hood sits an Intel Core i7-7700HQ mobile processor, an Nvidia GTX 1060, 16GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD designed to be perfect for MOBA players, but perhaps a little more modest for enthusiasts. For those worried about space, the ROG Strix SKT T1 Hero Edition also houses a 1TB HDD.

The outer shell showcases stylised graphics, with the SK telecom T1 logo proudly displayed. The keyboard features N-key rollover with a tested 20-million-keystroke lifespan and backlighting that looks to be RGB.

The ROG Strix SKT T1 Hero Edition is powered by a 65Wh battery, and its weight sits at approximately 2.3kg. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.1, while ports range from a USB Type-C port and 4 USB 3.0 ports, to a HDMI port, an audio jack, a mini Display Port, and an RJ45 jack.

Currently, it is exclusive to South East Asia, but is pegged to land in the US at a price of $1,599 shortly. The ROG Strix SKT T1 Hero Edition can eventually make its way into other markets, but this depends on demand from the League of Legends community. If you are interested in purchasing the device, ASUS recommends emailing your local ROG office to ask when it will become available.

KitGuru Says: While this laptop isn’t a powerhouse, it has a great balance between price, performance and portability while remaining rather aesthetically pleasing. I wouldn’t often find a split design appealing, but I feel that ASUS has done a good job on this one. Are you interested in the ROG Strix SKT T1 Hero Edition?
