Nokia close to pairing up with Microsoft to tackle smartphone market

It looks as if KitGuru were right again a few weeks ago when we heard that Nokia were set to pair up with Microsoft. Bloomberg have reported that Nokia are close to announcing a software partnership with Microsoft as they try to mount a challenge against Apple and Google.

Nokia chief executive Stephen Elop has held talks with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to place the latest Microsoft operating system onto Nokia phones. Elop has however been rumoured to have been speaking to Google CEO Eric Schmidt about using Googles Android OS on the phones, but sources behind the scenes say that this is likely to never happen.

Elop is set to announce a new strategy for Nokia in London, detailing his comeback plan into the smartphone market. Elop, aged 47 took command in September 2010, after a period of time as head of Microsoft’s business software division.
