Gigabyte Aorus 17H (2023)

Overall, I like the Gigabyte Aorus 17H and what it offers at £2249 in the UK. The main hardware features – that Core i7 and RTX 4080 – deliver the goods. And the Aorus cooling solution that allows them to drink over 170W of sustained power is highly competent. This is a fast, large form factor gaming laptop that impresses.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14

It’s no over exaggeration to call the 2022 ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 - with its concoction of new AMD hardware - a fantastic laptop. The Ryzen 9 6900HS processor is fast and incredibly efficient, the RX 6800S GPU pushes out some impressive frame numbers – once again with strong power efficiency, and the inclusion of new technologies like DDR5, PCIe Gen 4, and WiFi 6E is good to see. Plus, that 14-inch, QHD+, 120Hz display is impressive to my eyes.

ASUS ZenBook S 13 OLED

The ASUS laptop is glorious – they’ve done a really good job at deploying high-end hardware that is fitting of the highly-competent Ryzen processor. Ample Type-C connectivity, impending USB4 support, a 2.8K OLED touch display - this laptop ticks many boxes. And many of those features are made possible thanks to the significant SoC and platform improvements brought to the market by AMD’s Ryzen 6000 Series Mobile processors in this low power format.

Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 SE

Those components could have easily been used to create a powerful laptop that ran as hot as a furnace, however Asus avoided that potential problem by using a vapour chamber cooler that covers both the CPU and GPU. Most people will never see the cooler inside their laptop so it gladdens our heart that they really made a feature of this critical component with engraving that shows the layout of the hardware beneath.

Lenovo Legion 5i Pro 16

Lenovo has done a good job with the Legion 5i Pro 16 Gen 7. It offers a sensible balance of hardware that combines a good CPU with mid-range gaming graphics and a large screen that sports a resolution that is close to QHD. In addition you get decent battery life, good Wi-Fi and a smattering of RGB lighting in the keyboard. The price is very reasonable and perhaps most importantly this laptop does not suffer from any fatal flaws
