Lastest trailer shows The Evil Within the photographs

Bethesda has dropped another trailer for its upcoming horror sequel, The Evil Within 2. While the last trailer focused on the gruesome fiends that the protagonist, Sebastian, will have to face, this one sheds light on a more human villain who’s as every bit a monster as the others.

The trailer, aptly named The Twisted, Deadly Photographer introduces the antagonist bearing that exact title, Stefano Valentini, who is just as deadly behind the lens as he is in front of it. His work is spread throughout Union, showing the horrifying fate of his victims. Even more disturbing is that some of the photographs are brought to life by Valentini’s power to create “moment of death” snapshots, depicting the last moments of his victims’ lives in an endless loop.

Before his onset of insanity and encounters with the STEM world, Valentini was a war photographer who lost his eye during an explosion in the field. Walking away with his life intact, he began to fixate on the very moment of death, finding beauty in the split seconds before someone’s life ends. Naturally, rather than waiting for those moments, Stefano took it upon himself to control those moments, becoming a serial killer in the process.

During the events of The Evil Within 2, Stefano fixates on Sebastian’s daughter, Lily, believing her to be the key to unlocking the potential of his newly created world. The player will take control of Sebastian, wandering into Stefano’s STEM world and doing battle with his hideous creation, Obscura to uncover more about the villain's life before madness took hold.

At this point, we know a lot about Stefano Valentini as he has appeared in varying degrees in almost every trailer.  There’s a distinct Hannibal Lecter vibe about him, from his tragic backstory to his penchant for creativity and sophistication. Not to mention the warped serial killing madness, of course. That being said, he is not the only human villain to watch out for in The Evil Within 2, as another favourite of writer, Trent Haaga’s, is the mystery that is Theodore.

The Evil Within 2 comes to PS4, Xbox One and PC on Friday the 13th of October and until then, we can expect more information to creep out of the shadows.

KitGuru Says: The Evil Within 2 is shaping up nicely since its E3 reveal, so much so that I am thinking about trying the first game. Did you enjoy The Evil Within? Will you be picking up the sequel?
