Cyberpunk 2077 is ‘quite different’ now compared to gameplay shown last year

We all got a good look at Cyberpunk 2077 last year when CD Projekt Red released a lengthy gameplay demo, showing off some of the different in-game mechanics across a full mission. As always though, game development involves a lot of experimentation and iteration, with that in mind, the version of Cyberpunk 2077 that we see this year is going to be “quite different” from what we saw in 2018.

Cyberpunk 2077 quest director, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, recently discussed the game in an interview with Spanish outlet ‘AreaJugones‘. During the interview, he said that there are “many things that we have not revealed about the game yet” and that there are still things that the team is working on. He then went on to say that “the game is quite different from the gameplay shown last year” but it could change even further as development continues.

Tomaszkiewicz added that what we saw last year was “a small fragment of the game” that didn't really show off the open world elements or the broader story at play. As you might expect, CD Projekt Red developers are drawing inspiration from great RPGs of the past. Aside from The Witcher 3, some of the team members have been looking towards Deus Ex and Vampire Bloodlines as points of inspiration.

CD Projekt Red will be returning to E3 this year and will show off more Cyberpunk 2077. We have no idea if we'll finally get a release window, but we are remaining optimistic about it.

KitGuru Says: Cyberpunk 2077 is my most anticipated game at the moment and I am sure many readers here feel the same. Hopefully we get another good look at it in June, although I'm not expecting another full hour of gameplay. A release date would be nice but the messaging so far still seems to be that there is a lot of work left to be done.
