God of War Ragnarök will be even bigger than expected

God of War Ragnarök is set to release in just a few short weeks and being the conclusion to the Norse saga, the game is expected to be quite meaty. Previous reports stated that the game would take up almost 100GB, but with the title being just over two weeks away, we now know that it is even bigger than expected.

Back in September, Twitter account ‘PlayStationSize’ stated that the upcoming God of War Ragnarök would take up 90.6GB on PlayStation 4. This would have represented an almost exact doubling of the game’s file size when compared to 2018’s God of War – which takes up 45.7GB.

Mere weeks away from Ragnarok’s release, Twitter user ‘Ifnoelb’ managed to get their hands on an early copy of the game, and by installing the PS4 version of Ragnarök was able to report that the files size is quite a bit bigger than the 90.6GB expected – being 118.5GB.

God of War Ragnarök will complete the Norse story which started with 2018’s title and so to fit two parts of a trilogy into one title requires a decent amount of space. Furthermore, we already know that unlike in the first game, Kratos and Atreus will be able to explore all nine realms – each of which looks to be wildly different from the last.

Being a first-party game, God of War Ragnarök will likely benefit from Sony’s Kraken compression technology on PlayStation 5, meaning that the ‘next-gen’ version of the title may be significantly smaller in size while increasing visual quality across the board. That being said, with how big Ragnarök is on PS4, it will be interesting to see just how small Kraken is able to compress it to.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Ragnarok’s size? Do you expect it to be justified? How big do you think the game will be on PS5? Let us know down below.
