CES 2019: MSI adds PS63 to ‘lifestyle’ laptop lineup

While MSI traditionally focusses on gaming laptops, the company has also been rolling out more traditional portables intended for the mainstream audience. Today at CES, MSI announced the latest addition to its ‘lifestyle' lineup of laptops- the PS63 Modern.

The PS63 Modern strips things back in favour of a streamlined, portable design. Rather than focussing on gamers, the PS63 targets business users and content creators, you won't even find an RGB keyboard here, instead the keyboard has a standard white backlight, similar to the MacBook Pro and other laptops. One of the crowning features here is battery life, you can use the PS63 for up to 16 hours on a single charge and if you do run out of juice- Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 is in place to get you going again in no time at all.

In terms of spec, you are looking at a 15.6-inch ‘IPS-level' display with 99% sRGB coverage and a 1080p resolution. Under the hood, you will find an Nvidia GTX 1050 Max-Q, ‘up to' an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU and ‘up to' 32GB of DDR4 RAM. Finally, MSI has also switched over to full SSD storage, with this laptop capable of taking one M.2 NVMe/PCIe/SATA SSD and an additional M.2 (SATA) drive.

As you would expect, the I/O options are solid, bringing USB 3.1 Type-C, USB 3.1 Type-A, an SD Card reader, a HDMI port and connections for headphones/microphone. Carrying one of these around should be a breeze, as it is just 15.9mm thick and weighs in at 1.65kg.

Pricing and availability information is still to be determined, but we should hear more on that soon.

KitGuru Says: Content creators is a broad term, but if you are the type of person that needs a laptop to type out lots of documents and maybe edit images every so often, then this laptop should certainly do the trick. Are any of you currently shopping around for a new laptop for work rather than play? What do you think of the MSI PS63?
