Apple launches iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max

Just as expected, during Apple's annual September event, we saw the launches of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The new trio of devices are similar to last year's, with one LCD display model and two OLEDs. However, all three new iPhones are equipped with the new A13 Bionic SoC for improved performance.

The standard iPhone 11 is essentially a replacement to the XR, offering a range of colour options, the same LCD display and dual camera sensors on the rear. The main upgrades here come via iOS 13 feature updates and higher performance enabled by the new A13 Bionic processor.

The iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are replacements for last year's XS and XS Max. As previously leaked, these two devices have a new camera arrangement, adding a third sensor, delivering Ultra Wide, Wide and Telephoto lenses for photos and video. The new cameras are supposed to deliver significant improvements in low-light situations and higher quality video recording.

The OLED displays here are described as ‘Super Retina XDR', which includes 1,200 nits of peak brightness for HDR content. The iPhone 11 Pro has a 5.8-inch display running at 2436×1125 resolution, while the Pro Max has a 6.5-inch display running at 2688×1242 resolution. All three iPhone 11 devices use the A13 Bionic SoC.

The new A13 Bionic chip allows for 30 percent faster Face ID recognition. A new U1 chip allows the iPhone 11 series to use Ultra Wideband technology, so Airdrop will be improved with directional awareness. Finally, Dolby Atmos certification and a WiFi 6 modem are included for better audio and faster networking.

Pricing is similar to last year, so the iPhone 11 starts at £729, the iPhone 11 Pro starts at £1,049 and the iPhone 11 Pro Max starts at £1,149.

KitGuru Says: I'm not particularly impressed with the iPhone upgrades this year, particularly at the current pricing. Are any of you planning on upgrading this year?
