Halo: Infinite will have a Battle Royale, claims Microsoft leak

Since Halo 5: Guardians’ release back in 2015, the Battle Royale genre has exploded onto the scene, changing the way that many multiplayer games are played, and even created. Though 343 previously claimed that Halo: Infinite wouldn't launch with a Battle Royale mode, the game’s page listing in Japan suggests that the upcoming (and final?) Halo game will indeed feature a Battle Royale mode.

Discovered by Reddit user JJAB91, the Japanese Xbox page listing for Halo: Infinite, under the genre section, is listed as Battle Royale. On the english page however, it’s  listed as a shooter. While this discrepancy may simply be an error, some fans have chosen to take this to mean that Halo: Infinite will feature a Battle Royale mode.

This makes sense as not only does almost every major first person shooter franchise now features a Battle Royale mode (Call of Duty: Warzone, Battlefield: Firestorm, Apex Legends), but following a recent Microsoft store leak, it was revealed that Halo: Infinite’s multiplayer would operate at 120fps and will be free-to-play — giving store leaks more merit.

It is worth noting however that back in April 2019 in response to rumours, 343 Industries developer Frank O’Connor claimed that Halo: Infinite would not launch with a Battle Royale mode. Of course, this has been the same for other franchises.

Most recently, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare released a standalone Battle Royale mode – Warzone – 5 months after the launch of the game, so O’Connor’s comments don't necessarily refute the possibility of a Battle Royale mode for Halo – even if it is after launch. Time will tell.
