Halo: Infinite’s Battle Pass detailed

Microsoft recently re-revealed Halo: Infinite following last year’s disappointing gameplay showcase. Alongside a new look at single player, the game’s multiplayer mode was shown off. Now, more details have been revealed, including exactly how the title’s Battle Pass will work.

Battle Passes have become an increasingly popular method of post-launch content, replacing the notion of map packs and season passes in many of the industry’s most popular franchises. Halo: Infinite’s free-to-play multiplayer mode will also be adopting Battle Passes – however in a much kinder way than most.

As part of the multiplayer overview for Halo: Infinite, the team at 343 Industries detailed exactly how its own Battle Passes will be implemented. Firstly, unlike most games whose Battle Passes align with Seasons – with the pass expiring after – Halo: Infinite’s passes will not expire, meaning that players will have as much time as needed to ascend its ranks.

This also means that players will be able to purchase older passes, reducing the risk of FOMO, and letting newer players access old content. Thirdly, unlike most Battle Passes, which allow you to pay money to skip levels of the Battle Pass, Halo’s will allow for no such things, ensuring that reaching max rank will mean something (though again, you will have as much time as needed to do so).

Finally, 343i confirmed that all unlocks from the Battle Pass will be cosmetic-only, offering no tangible advantages to those who pay for the passes (though this practice is relatively common nowadays anyway). Halo: Infinite’s multiplayer mode is looking to be shaping up nicely. Hopefully the gameplay manages to satisfy fans of the franchise.
