At the end of 2016, HyperX launched its first mechanical keyboard, the Alloy FPS, and we loved it – giving it 9/10 and our ‘Must Have' award. Now, the company is back with a new keyboard, this time named the Alloy Elite. Most notably, it includes a wrist rest, Cherry MX switches and dedicated media keys – but how does it fare in an already saturated peripheral market?

With an RRP of £119.99, the HyperX Alloy Elite comes in £20 more expensive that the Alloy FPS. For that extra cash consumers are getting that wrist rest, a proper USB pass-through port, dedicated media keys, a volume slider and one-button LED controls – so it definitely seems like quite a good deal on paper.

However, it is important to note that this is not an RGB keyboard. HyperX has shown off its Alloy Elite RGB keyboard at CES and Computex, but that model is expected to arrive in 2018. For now, the Alloy Elite keeps the red-only backlight of its predecessor.
