Netgear debuts its Nighthawk Pro Gaming XR300 Wi-Fi Router

The Nighthawk Pro Gaming series of routers have frequently impressed the KitGuru labs with their extensive range of features, gaming focus and clean DumaOS interface. Netgear is now adding another one to the line-up, unveiling its Nighthawk Pro Gaming XR300 Wi-Fi Router during the SXSW Gaming Expo.

The Nighthawk Pro Gaming XR300 is built with popular fast-paced games like Fortnite, Apex Legends and PUBG in mind, keeping internet speeds consistent and latency low. It shares the same intuitive dashboard as its other Pro Gaming brethren, helping to “minimise lag with ultra-low ping rates” while adding a personalised touch to its customisation.

“With more than 2.3 billion active gamers in the world, online gaming is truly becoming the world’s favorite pastime. As multiplayer online games grow in popularity, it’s known that latency kills,” explains senior vice president of Netgear’s Connected Home Products, David Henry.

“Our award-winning line of Pro Gaming routers, including the XR500 and the XR700, emerged very naturally as a response to the needs of the gaming community, who already favored our Nighthawk routers,” says David Henry, senior vice president of Connected Home Products for NETGEAR. “The XR300 is the latest addition to our NPG router lineup, and it ensures that every gamer is provided with a competitive edge to dominate their game, on their platform of choice.”

Owners of the Nighthawk Pro Gaming XR300 can use the Quality of Service (QoS) feature to allocate bandwidth to specific devices, limiting the maximum download and upload speeds per connection. Geo Filtering enables the user to control the distance to game servers or other players. Both of these features help to avoid unexpected lag spikes.

The router itself has four Gigebit Ethernet LAN ports, one WAN port and puts out “Super-fast 802.11ac wireless speeds intended to benefit PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and even mobile systems. The Netgear Nighthawk Pro Gaming XR300 will land on shelves worldwide in April, 2019, at an MSRP of £169.99 here in the UK.

KitGuru Says: It’s certainly more affordable that some of the previous Nighthawk Pro Gaming routers, but only time will tell if it truly stacks up. Do you own a gaming router? What are your thoughts?
