Benchmark leak gives details on Intel Core i9-10900X and Core i9-10980XE

Fans of HEDT platforms have quite a lot to look forward to at the moment. Not only has there been leaked information surrounding AMD's 3rd Gen Threadripper CPUs, but we also have details on Intel's Cascade Lake-X chips thanks to benchmark leaks.

The Intel Core i9-10900X and Core i9-10980XE were recently spotted in the Geekbench benchmark database. According to the listing, the 10900X will sport 10 cores and 20 threads with the same amount of L1, L2 and L3 cache as the current-gen Core i9-9900X. Clock speeds are also shown as being the same, so these two chips appear to be very similar. The listing showed the 10900X as running in a Dell Precision 5820 X-series system, so this could be a genuine OEM leak, but it is also possible to fake Geekbench results, so take all of this current information with a pinch of salt.

The same source that leaked the Core i9-10900X also posted a listing for what could turn out to be the Cascade Lake-X flagship processor- the Core i9-10980XE. This will be an 18-core, 36 thread CPU with base/boost clock speeds of 2.46GHz and 3.93GHz respectively. Once again, this CPU was listed as running in a Dell Precision 5820 X-series PC.

Cascade Lake-X is set to be based on the 14nm++ manufacturing process and should offer some good performance improvements over second generation Threadripper. However, AMD also has 3rd Gen Threadripper up its sleeve, so it will be interesting to see the competition in the coming months.

KitGuru says: AMD has been giving Intel some serious competition in the desktop CPU space over the last few years. Are any of you planning an HEDT upgrade soon? Are you more interested in Cascade Lake-X or 3rd Gen Threadripper?
