References to three Google Pixel devices spotted in Android code

Things have been fairly quiet recently on the Google Pixel front recently but we are finally starting to get some new information. Reports this week claim to have found references to three upcoming Pixel devices in the code for the Android Open Source project, all of which will run on the Snapdragon 835 SoC.

While it is not too surprising that Google is planning to use the Snapdragon 835 for its next Pixel phone, the fact that there may be three different Pixels this year is. Right now, the followup to the original Pixel is said to be codenamed ‘Muskie' while the Pixel XL successor is codenamed ‘Walleye'.

The surprise third device was spotted by GSMArena. It is codenamed ‘Taimen' and it is rumoured to be even larger than the Pixel XL, with something closer to a 6-inch display. However, it could alternatively be a successor to the Pixel C Android tablet. It is currently believed that HTC will once again be manufacturing the Google Pixel this year, as it did back in 2016.

KitGuru Says: There are three codenamed devices in the works over at Google. Judging by the reports, it makes more sense for the third Pixel device to be a successor to the Pixel C tablet, rather than a third smartphone.
