The Acer Predator X27 is on the way, breaking boundaries with 4K/144Hz

Back at CES in January, we first heard about plans to unleash 4K/144Hz gaming monitors this year. ASUS and Acer are set to be the first monitor makers to market and while we haven't seen much of the ROG monitor, Acer is gearing up for release and showing off the Acer Predator X27 already.

In the build-up to the monitor's eventual release, today Acer uploaded a promo video for the Predator X27 monitor. The goal here is to ‘shatter expectations' by releasing a monitor capable of 144Hz at 4K, which was not possible at all up until now.

Aside from ushering in 144Hz capabilities for Ultra-HD gamers, the Predator X27 gaming monitor features a Quantum Dot panel with HDR 10, paving the way for excellent colours in supported games. G-Sync 2.0 is also on-board, which supports HDR and ultra high refresh rates at 4K resolution. The monitor has built in eye-tracking, which is supported in some games like last year's Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

Unfortunately, we do not have an exact release date yet or pricing information. However, we have previously heard from our contact at ASUS that their ROG 4K/144Hz monitor will be in the £2000 ballpark. That may have changed in the last couple of months but it is definitely worth keeping in mind. I'd expect Acer's X27 to be north of £1500.

KitGuru Says: With 4K/144Hz now finally becoming possible, we may start to see more gamers make the jump from 1080p or 1440p. However, you will need deep pockets to afford the monitors and GPUs required- at least for now.
