Launch date of Core i7-6700K and Core i5-6600K ‘Skylake-S’ revealed

Intel Corp. will officially unveil its next-generation mainstream microprocessors for enthusiasts in early August at the Gamescom trade-show. The introduction of the code-named “Skylake-S” microprocessors at a games conference will emphasize that the new chips are designed primarily for systems used to play video games.

Intel intends to formally unveil its quad-core Core i7-6700K and Core i5-6600K central processing units with unlocked multiplier along with its Z170 core-logic on the 5th of August, 2015. Mainboard makers among Intel’s partners will roll-out their Intel Z170-based platforms together with the new microprocessors, reports DigiTimes web-site.

The new processors featuring all-new micro-architecture promise to increase performance in games compared to existing offerings, whereas the new Intel Z170 chipset will significantly improve platform-related capabilities of Intel-based PCs. In particular, Z170-based motherboards will feature more PCI Express 3.0 lanes than existing mainboards, which will improve multi-GPU and storage performance.

The second round of “Skylake-S” roll-out will occur on the 36th week (30th of August to 5th of September), when Intel unveils its mainstream H170 and B150 platforms in addition to Core i7-6700/6700T, Core i5-6600, 6500, 6400, 6600T, 6500T and 6400T central processing units.

The third round will conclude introduction of “Skylake-S” CPUs for desktops on the 40th week (27th of September – 3rd of October), when Intel and partners start to sell H110-powered motherboards as well as low-power Core i5 and dual-core Core i3 new-generation chips.

Intel is expected to introduce mobile versions of “Skylake” microprocessors for notebooks, high-performance tablets and other portable applications in late September or early October, 2015.

Intel did not comment on the news-story.
