Samsung is launching a Gear VR for the Galaxy S6

Samsung is going to release a new version of the Gear VR headset specifically for the Samsung Galaxy S6, with pre-orders going live tomorrow. The original Gear VR headset was created by Oculus and was built for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

The Gear VR Innovator Edition for the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge will be available through Best Buy and directly through Samsung in the US, with units becoming available on the 8th of May. The new headset has also been designed in collaboration with Oculus and will have some key improvements.

Improvements have been made to make the head-gear more comfortable to wear. Additionally, the device will now work with a mainstream device, which will perhaps make it a bit more popular as not many people own a Galaxy Note in comparison to a Galaxy S device.

Samsung has not officially confirmed the price of its updated virtual reality headset but the original did go for $199 at launch.

KitGuru Says: Sales figures for the original Gear VR headset were not released we don't know exactly how successful it was but it seems that Samsung is interested in pursuing its idea for VR on smartphones. Do you guys think VR fits with smartphones? I tried a Google Cardboard headset for the first time recently and it was quite interesting, although the resolution of the screen used detracted from the experience a little bit.
