Rocket League’s cross-platform party system is coming but won’t launch this month

Psyonix has been one of the forces behind the industry's push towards cross-platform multiplayer gaming. In order to help push the boundaries further, Rocket League is set to get a new ‘RocketID' feature, which will allow friends across different platforms to party up and play together. Initially, we were expecting to see this feature in September but it has been pushed back a bit for further testing.

As part of the Rocket League Summer Roadmap, RocketID is set to bridge the gap between consoles/PC and allow friends to join up together. Rocket League already has cross-platform matchmaking, but this new update will allow for cross-platform parties too. The feature will be launching this year but it will be coming a bit later than expected.

Psyonix updated the community on the status of RocketID in a new post this week, explaining that the team wants to “ensure that RocketID is operating flawlessly on all platforms before its release”.

RocketID will now be bundled in a separate update in the future. An exact rollout date has not been announced yet but we'll hopefully hear more on that in October.

KitGuru Says: Rocket League continues to be a great success, in large thanks to its huge cross-platform multiplayer matchmaking system. Expanding this to include cross-platform parties will be a great step forward, although we'll likely only get to enjoy that on PC, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One, as Sony is still standing against cross-platform initiatives.
