Star Wars Squadrons will not have microtransactions

Last week, EA officially unveiled Star Wars: Squadrons, with a gameplay showcase taking place during EA Play Live. With its multiplayer focus, this may seem like one of those microtransaction-baked live service games that EA seems to love so much but it turns out, that won't be the case here.

Speaking with Game Informer, Star Wars Squadrons' Creative Director, Ian Frazier, discussed the value proposition of the game, stating that this is not a game created “around a live-service strategy”. He also added that he wants the $40 price tag to “feel generous to players”.

Here is the full quote: “Our mindset has been very old school. We're trying to say with this game that we have a $40 price point, we want to feel generous to players, and we want it to feel like a complete experience. Like ‘You gave us your $40. Here's a game that you will love. Thank you.' That's it. This isn't something we are building around a live-service strategy. It's built around a game that is complete and great in its own right. That's not to say we will never add anything, I guess we could, but it's not presented as a live service.”

Star Wars Squadrons writer, Mitch Dyer, also later commented on Twitter, reiterating that the game will have “zero microtransactions”.

KitGuru Says: EA avoided microtransactions with Jedi: Fallen Order and it looks like that same approach is coming with Squadrons this year. Now we just have to wait and hope that the final game turns out well.
