Android now has over two billion active monthly users

Google has been dominating the smartphone market with Android for years now but just how many people are using it on an active monthly basis? Today, Google revealed that currently, there are two billion active users on the Android platform per month, doubling the figure Google achieved back in 2014.

The massive user count was just one of several milestones Google revealed during its I/O conference this week. Google also unveiled it currently has 800 million monthly Drive users, there are also 500 million users of Google Photos.

For comparison, Microsoft has around 1.5 billion Windows users worldwide, spread out over various versions of the OS. On top of that, Facebook currently has 1.94 billion active monthly users. Back at the start of 2016, Apple hit the 1 billion active user milestone, so clearly, Android is pretty far ahead of just about everyone.

Outside of that, Google also used the I/O conference to make a few other announcements. Firstly, Android O is now entering its beta stage ahead of its scheduled release later this Summer. Lastly, Google is also partnering up with some third-party companies to develop all-in-one wireless Daydream VR headsets.

KitGuru Says: Android has really blown up over the last five years, to the point now where it is more popular than Windows. It really is quite the achievement on Google's part.
