Samsung’s Android 8.0 Oreo update is now available in beta

If you happen to own a Samsung Galaxy S8 or Note 8 and happen to be itching to get your hands on the Android Oreo update, then you are in luck. This week, Samsung launched its Android 8.0 Oreo beta program, inviting owners of its 2017 devices to test out the update ahead of time and provide feedback.

Android Oreo launched earlier this year and kicked off its rollout with the launch of the Google Pixel 2 in October. As usual, it will take longer for third-party Android device makers to begin rolling out the update for their respective flagships. This is especially true of Samsung, due to the additional customisation that takes place with TouchWiz.

If you have a Galaxy S8 or a Galaxy Note 8, then you can currently download the ‘Samsung Members’ app from the Google Play Store. From there, you can sign up to be part of the ‘Galaxy Beta Program, which will net you access to an early version of the Oreo update for these two smartphones.

Once you are registered you can head into the Android settings menu, head to ‘About Device’ and tap the option to download updates manually. It can take up to 24 hours for the update to show up, so keep an eye out.

KitGuru Says: Unfortunately, Google still hasn’t managed to come up with a system that ensures that third-party flagships receive the latest version of Android around the same time as its own devices. However, with beta programs like this in place, enthusiasts should be able to get their hands on updates a bit quicker. Do any of you currently own a Galaxy S8 or a Note 8? Are you waiting for the Android Oreo update to drop?
