Bravely Default II now has a free demo available on Nintendo Switch

Square Enix has already released some of the best Nintendo Switch titles to date, including the likes of Octopath Traveller and Dragon Quest XI Definitive Edition. In 2020, the publisher is coming back for round 3, with a brand new sequel to Bravely Default. Bravely Default II was announced back at The Game Awards and now just a few months later, we can play it for ourselves thanks to a new demo.

Bravely Default II highlights four new heroes that embark on a mission guided by the elemental crystals. If that sounds like a premise ripped straight out of Final Fantasy, that's because it is. The original Bravely Default started off as a Final Fantasy project for the 3DS before pivoting into its own franchise. Two games have already been released on the 3DS: Bravely Default and Bravely Second: End Layer.

Bravely Default II is an entirely new, standalone game, so you don't need to have played the previous games to follow along. Your new party will consist of the following characters:

  • Seth- The Young Sailor
  • Gloria- Princess of a Lost Kingdom
  • Adelle- The Mercenary
  • Elvis- The Travelling Scholar

Graphically, Bravely Default looks more like a Tokyo RPG Factory title rather than following a similar style to Octopath Traveller. There is still no release date for Bravely Default II but it is supposed to be releasing this year. Based on feedback from the new demo, a final release date could be a little sooner, or pushed back towards later in the year. The demo is downloadable through the Nintendo Switch eShop.

KitGuru Says: I was a huge fan of the original Bravely Default, so this is already one of my most anticipated Switch exclusives. Have any of you tried the demo version yet? What do you think of it?
