Intel announce Xeon E-2200 processors featuring up to eight cores and 5.0 GHz

An area which Intel still has a vast share of the market is with server CPUs – the company has announced that the new Xeon E-2200 processors are available now for entry-level servers.

Intel’s Xeon E-2200 is designed to deliver essential performance for businesses, with advanced security features for cloud-based services. The Intel Xeon E-2200 builds on the company’s twenty years of Xeon based platforms and now delivers entry-level server customers, higher core frequencies, larger core count and further advancements in security.

The refreshed Xeon line up consists of processors with four and six-core SKUs featuring faster core speeds, while new eight-core variants will enable servers to operate at frequencies up to 5.0 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 and hardware-level security through Intel Secure Guard Extensions (SGX).

Intel claims the Xeon E-2200 processors are designed to benefit small businesses with essential performance, reliability, security and expandability to help fuel their growth. New Intel Xeon processors support the latest operating systems with performance to run the most demanding tasks such as file sharing, data storage and backup to support the needs of modern small businesses.

The new generation of Intel Xeon processors offer enhanced security features and supports Intel SGX, which delivers an additional layer of hardware-based security to further protect sensitive customer data when used with cloud-based applications. Intel SGX is used to partition applications code and data into processor-hardened, encrypted areas of execution memory. The new eight-core Xeon has double the capacity of these encrypted areas over previous generations.
