Apple won’t be bringing USB-C to iPhone anytime soon according to analyst

While Apple moved the iPad Pro over to USB-C connectivity years ago, the company has been resistant to bringing this change to iPhone, opting to stick to its own ageing Lightning interface. Unfortunately, it sounds like Apple won't be changing its mind on this in 2021.

According to Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo (via Apple Insider), Apple has no plans to bring USB-C to the iPhone, nor will it be reintroducing Touch ID on the power button in this year's iPhone. These are two features that have been available on iPads for quite some time.

In a note to investors, Kuo reveals that Apple doesn't want to bring USB-C to the iPhone as it could impact the profitability of its MFi business. Beyond that, the waterproof specification for USB-C is apparently lower than Lightning or MagSafe – the latter came to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

Kuo anticipates that Apple will  continue to use Lightning for the foreseeable future. Instead, Apple will be focusing on other areas for this year's iPhone, including making the notch smaller and introducing higher refresh rate displays for iPhone.

KitGuru Says: This is unfortunate news for those who are sick of carrying around two chargers for their iPad Pro and iPhone. Still, it also isn't too surprising as Apple has always been frustrating when it comes to ports, cables and other accessories.
