Monster Hunter: World is now the fastest selling game in Capcom’s history

Last year at E3, Capcom made a big splash with its announcement of Monster Hunter: World. The game has typically been seen as something of a cult classic, but with this entry to the series, the publisher wanted to push it into the mainstream and so far, it appears to be working. This week, it was announced that Monster Hunter: World is the fastest selling game in Capcom's history.

So far, Monster Hunter: World has shipped over 7.5 million copies on the Xbox One and PS4. More than seven million people have played it, this includes physical and digital copies. Surprisingly, this also means that Monster Hunter: World has beat out the popular Resident Evil series, including last year's Resident Evil VII.

This is a record high for Capcom and impressively, the game still has one more major platform to launch on. Monster Hunter: World is currently out on Xbox One and PS4, but a PC version is also heading our way, which will be coming out this autumn.

It seems that bringing the series to other platforms has really helped. Since 2006, the Monster Hunter franchise has predominantly been tied to Nintendo consoles and handhelds. Opening the doors up to Xbox and Playstation owners has gone a long way. In total, the Monster Hunter series has now sold over 48 million copies in the last 14 years, now it looks like World will push the franchise over the 50 million milestone.

KitGuru Says: I've been playing a bit of Monster Hunter: World and while I do wish that teaming up with friends was a little less convoluted, the game is very fun. There is a lot of depth to the combat, with each weapon feeling distinctly unique. Have many of you tried Monster Hunter: World yet? Or are you waiting for the PC release?
