Google makes room for Pixel 2 by giving the original Pixel a price cut

The Google Pixel is still a great smartphone but sooner than later, it will be replaced. Over the last couple of months, rumours surrounding the upcoming Pixel 2 have been swirling and now, Google has given the original Pixel a big $200 price cut, in a move that appears to be making way for the Pixel 2 launch in a couple of months time.

As part of Google’s ‘Back to School’ sale, the company has cut the price of the Pixel XL from $769 down to $569. The original Pixel has been cut from $649 down to $524. Anyone that buys a Pixel will also receive a free Daydream View headset for virtual reality content, this isn’t added automatically though, you need to add the Daydream View to your cart in addition to a Pixel smartphone for the discount to apply.

While this sale does fall in line with back to school season, we are expecting to see a Google Pixel 2 announcement at some point in October. Historically, Google has released its new flagship Nexus devices in October, around one month after the iPhone. The company continued this in 2016 with the Pixel and so far, there is no reason to believe that this tradition will be broken this year.

So far in the leaks, we have seen what appears to be the final design for the Pixel 2, showing a display similar to the Galaxy S8. The fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone still remains in the same location and under the hood, we should see the Snapdragon 835 powering the show.

KitGuru Says: The Google Pixel is still one of the best Android offerings around and hopefully that will remain true with the Pixel 2 when that launches. Are any of you planning on buying a new smartphone this year? Are you holding out for the Pixel 2?
