BenQ to release R100 Tablet in Q1 2011

BenQ are planned to release their first tablet PC in Taiwan in Q1 of 2011, this informed has been confirmed by a company representative.

The R100, as it will be called, features a 10.1 inch touchscreen with 1024×600 resolution and will be running the formidable Google Android Mobile operating system. Many manufacturers seem to be focusing on 7 inch screens but BenQ are aiming for one, even bigger than the Apple iPad.

Inside it will be powered by an ARM processor which runs at 833mhz. It will be target the iPad in offering support for books, magazine and newspaper subscriptions as well as all other applications available on the Android Market. While the processor is slightly slower, the battery life is said to be extended to a whopping 12 hours, which would be 2-3 more than the iPad. It will also come with 8GB of internal storage and an SD slot to handle up to 16GB SD cards. BenQ have added mini USB and mini HDMI ports to the device as well as a 3.5 mm earphone jack.

The dimensions will be 191mm by 244mm and will it will be 15mm thick. The weight is said to be around 720 grams. No specific release date has been confirmed and no price has been set.
