Angry Birds Space: 50 million downloads in 35 days

The gaming industry has changed in the last year, with more people becoming sucked into the cheap ‘casual' mobile gaming sector. Angry Birds Space is the latest success story, breaking new records. They claim that the game has been downloaded 50 million times in 35 days.

Rovio announced on their blog yesterday that the game which launched on March 22nd has broken records, with 50 million downloads in just over a month.

The record figure may come as a surprise to many, after all Angry Birds has been on the market now for years, and many people assumed that the audience would have moved onto the ‘next big thing' by now. The changes to the title however are attracting a huge audience who like the new ‘orbit' gravity system and environment.

They said on their blog “This has been simply amazing, and the whole Rovio team is thrilled to see such a fantastic reception for the game. “We extend our deepest gratitude to all fans of Angry Birds everywhere. While numbers like this certainly say something about the popularity of Angry Birds, for us the main goal is to keep creating fun new experiences that everybody can enjoy!”

Angry Birds has received over 700 million downloads to date, which is a staggering figure and one that major players such as Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo can only hope to achieve. The attraction for Angry Birds is that high, that the company also release a range of merchandise including clothes, toys, pillows and magnets. The latest news suggests that there are plans to build theme parks based around the Angry Birds games.
