RIM announce new BlackBerry Bold 9790 and Curve 9380

Research In Motion have announced two new Blackberry smartphones this week, the Bold 9790 and the Curve 9380. We can't say they seem that exciting and I can't imagine they will attract a new audience already into the HTC or iPhone handsets.

The Bold 9790 is a traditional design, delivering a small 2.45 inch screen and ships with a full QWERTY keyboard, ideal for the businessman on the move. The 9790 is a 480×360 res Touchscreen with 246 dots per inch. It is powered by a 1 GHZ processor and has 1 GB of memory with 8GB of storage. You can expand the storage capacity by adding a microSD card up to 32GB in size. There is also a 5 megapixel camera on board but if its anything like the one on my own Blackberry it is pretty dire and awful in low light situations. It can capture video at 640×480 resolution if you fancy taking some average quality video with the handset.

The Curve 9380 has no QWERTY keyboard and is a touchphone design. The design is 3.2 inches, slightly larger than the Bold 9790 and offers the same 480×360 res, but at 188 pixels per inch. It only has 512MB of memory, which in reality should be fine.

Research in Motion are keen to point out that the phones have a better browser, with HTML 5 and JavaScript capability, running BlackBerry OS7. No mention yet of UK release dates.

Kitguru says: These new smartphones seem to be treading old ground and its disappointing that RIM have nothing dramatic, or exciting to talk about until the BBX Blackberrys are launched. Will they be a game changer however?
