European carriers unimpressed by Nokia’s Lumia series

Even though Nokia's Lumia series of smartphones are undoubtedly the best Windows Phone 7 smartphones, European carriers are still not overwhelmed by them. Reuters has been asking four major mobile telecom carriers about the Lumia series and have reported that they walk away unimpressed, even going as far as saying that Windows Phone cannot compete with Android or iOS.

European carriers don't believe the Nokia Lumia 900 is good enough to go up against the competition

The European carriers aren't impressed as they believe the Lumia series are overpriced, don't incorporate any true innovation and because they have encountered major bugs at a early stage that have put off potential customers. To add to this, insufficient marketing efforts are also to blame.

“No one comes into the store and asks for a Windows Phone. Nokia have given themselves a double challenge: to restore their credibility in terms of making hardware smartphones and succeed with the Microsoft Windows operating system, which lags in the market.”

One of the carriers even go as far to say that Nokia's Lumia series would be more competitive and “easier to sell” if it came with Android instead of Microsoft's Windows Phone platform, which currently lags behind the two big players by many magnitudes. However, the gap should hopefully close with the release on Windows Phone 8 ‘Apollo' later this year, although we are still yet to see what Android 5.0 and iOS 6 holds in store for us all.

KitGuru says: Nokia better have some extra amazing in store if their venture with Microsoft is to succeed.
