Indilinx get taken over by OCZ

Indilinx, a South Korean company who specialise in flash controller technology have been acquired by OCZ Technology. The takeover only cost OCZ £20 million in stock.

Indilinx patents will be transferred over to OCZ as part of the deal, giving them a wide poll of technology to call from, including the rights to TinkerBell, an eMMC 4.4 controller which will allow OCZ to branch out into the smartphone market.

OCZ's Ryan Petersen said “This transaction is an important step in OCZ's strategy and significantly enhances our ability to capitalize on the worldwide demand for Solid State Drives. This combination brings together two organizations that are committed to advancing solid state drive design, and provides a unique opportunity for OCZ to increase both customer and shareholder value as well as expand our reach into embedded markets.”

OCZ have denied that they will be only using Indilinx controllers, saying they will purchase other models when the deals make sense. SandForce is still here to stay in their latest range of Vertex 3 SSD devices.

Indilinx retain Burnsoo Kim as president and Hyunmoo Chung as chief technology officer and will remain a supplier to other SSD businesses. The other 45 employees will keep their jobs, according to OCZ today.

KitGuru says: This will strengthen their SSD development, a key focus point for OCZ in recent years.
