Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 to retail for just $249

Samsung has just announced retail prices for its Galaxy Tab 2 tablets that will be available in 7 and 10.1 inch models. Starting from $249 the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 will be available for purchase with a 1024 x 600 pixel PLS display, 1 GHz dual core processor, 1 GB of RAM, 3 MP rear camera and a VGA front facing camera.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will be available mid-May for $399, while the 7 inch model will retail for just $249

The 10.1 inch Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will be much the same, except it will have a 1280 x 800 pixel PLS display and a larger battery.  Both tablets will also ship with the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update with Samsung's TouchWiz skin layered on top.

The hardware is not really an upgrade over previous Galaxy tablets which can be explained by Samsung's Travis Merrill; “frankly we feel that the hardware on the existing Galaxy Tabs is still extremely competitive and still industry leading.”

While the hardware hasn't changed much at all over the last year, pricing gets a really nice boost. The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 will be available for a very impressive $249, with pre-orders beginning today. Retail availability will begin on April 26th. Meanwhile you will be able to pre-order the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 from the 4th of May, with the tablet itself being available on May 13th for just $399.

Kitguru says: It won't surprise us if potential Amazon Kindle Fire buyers are swayed to purchasing the $249 Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0
