AMD Fusion based Sony VAIO YB hits retail for $599.99

Many of you will have already seen our exclusive MSI system coverage of the Fusion platform several weeks ago. For those of you looking for a svelte, attractive mobile platform based around this exciting new technology, then the Sony VAIO YB might just hit the spot.

Sony first announced this product at CES 2011, and its a 11.6 inch laptop which features the AMD Zacate 1.6GHZ processor, paired up with 4GB of DDR3 memory and a half a terrabyte hard drive. Right now it only seems available in the US in silver and pink for $599.99. Obviously as its Sony, you do pay a little more than others soon to hit the market, but you can be sure that the 1366×768 LED screen will be fantastic. We expect the UK price to be around the £500 inc vat point (hopefully closer to £450).

The machine ships with Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit (Ed: no 64 bit?), and a webcam, microphone, three USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11g/b/n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. There is also an HDMI port which will please people wanting to hook this into their high definition television.

It will weigh 1.46 kg and Sony are rating battery life at around 6-6.5 hours, which in real world terms is likely to be closer to 5 hours.
