Daily Mail fooled by ‘fake’ iPhone 4 recall on twitter

The Daily Mail have published a story saying that Steve Jobs is recalling the iPhone 4. Unfortunately this story is based on a ‘fake' Steve Jobs twitter account and has led to massive confusion with the buying public.

It appears that Daily Mail researchers didn't investigate properly as this is a well known parody account. The biography states : “I don't care what you think of me. You care what I think of you. Of course this is a parody account.”

While the Daily Mail published this at 11am yesterday morning they did realise that it was a mistake and removed the story later in the day. By then however the damage had been done and many members of the public were in full panic mode.

We can't help but wonder if Steve Jobs legal team will already be in discussions with Twitter to remove this imposter account … they aren't known for their leniency with negative press, even if it is a joke.

KitGuru says: In a rather amusing twist it appears that rival UK newspaper The Guardian have latched onto this story with a certain degree of smugness.
