Hewlett Packard to release $799 Slate 500

Hewlett Packard are launching a full blown assault on the Apple iPad with the release of their Slate 500 Tablet, which is aimed at the thriviing business market. It will be set to cost $799 and is going to satisfy those people who have to omit the Blackberry Playbook due to lack of 3G support.

The product has still to launch although the release is imminent. you can check over here www.hp.com/go/slate.

The HP Slate 500 has a full version of Windows 7 onboard on a 8.9 inch screen. 64GB of Flash storage is included with a 1024×600 screen resolution. Working out prices, the 64GB version is $100 more than the Apple iPad, which is surely partly due to the licensing overhead caused by Windows 7.

The product is powered by an Atom Z540 processor running at 1.86ghz and features a digital stylus pen, equipped with front and rear cameras and a USB port. 2GB of RAM is included.

“It's really like a full-function PC, it runs Windows, it will run your office applications, it just so happens to be in a slate form factor,” said Carol Hess-Nickels, director of business notebook marketing at HP.

KitGuru says: Looks like a great solution for the business market.
