Android showing staggering growth: iPhone down, as predicted

As KitGuru predicted all the major players are starting to lose ground in the US market to the Android machine which is only starting to gain momentum.

ComScore, marketing intelligence leader has published its quarterly Mobile Subscriber Market Share findings which has been tracking smartphone subscribers for three months ending in July. 53.4 million people in the US now own smartphones which is a staggering figure, up 11 percent from the previous quarter.

Out of all the top 5 players, only Google Android is showing growth, up to 17 percent from 12 percent. Apple, RIM, Microsoft have all lost share and Palm has remained steady at 4.9 percent.

In June, Android has passed iOS to become the third most popular mobile phone operating system in the world, according to Gartner.

“A non-exclusive strategy that produces products selling across many communication service providers, and the backing of so many device manufacturers, which are bringing more attractive devices to market at several different price points, were among the factors that yielded its growth this quarter,” said Carolina Milanesi, research vice president at Gartner.

KitGuru says: In 2011 we can only see Android taking over the world. We can also predict that the other leading manufacturers will be working on new versions of their operating systems to help negate lost sales.
