The post be quiet! Silent Loop 2 240mm AIO Cooler Review first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
The Silent Loop 2 is be quiet!’s first deployment of ARGB in their AIO liquid cooler line-up. In typical be quiet! fashion, though, the lighting is kept subtle and somewhat discreet rather than flashy and in-your-face. We take a look at how the new 240mm unit performs.

Fundamentally, be quiet! suggests that the Silent Loop 2 is designed for solid performance with quiet operation. While this is obviously ideal for most coolers, some aim for lower noise and some for higher performance. But be quiet! looks to be emphasising a balance between noise and performance.

One unique feature is the inclusion of a refill port to extend the lifespan of your cooler, and be quiet! encourages topping up the fluid after two years of operation.

Available in 120 / 240 / 280 /360mm iterations, we are testing the 240mm version. The be quiet! Silent Loop 2 240mm version is priced around £120 in the UK with availability from early April and with a 3-year warranty.

Specifications and Features:

  • 240mm, 27mm-thick aluminium radiator
  • 2x120mm be quiet! Silent Wings 3 High-Speed PWM fans
  • 2800 RPM 3-pin DC pump unit
  • Nickel-plated copper cold plate with over 120 micro fins
  • ARGB LED lighting in the pump block unit
  • Refillable design with included coolant
  • 3-year warranty
  • 120 / 240 / 280 / 360mm version available
  • Modern Intel and AMD socket support (sTRX4 via a future bracket)

G.Skill is a very prominent name in the memory market, but it looks like the company wants to diversify its portfolio of PC components and expand into the CPU cooler market. The new Enki AIO CPU cooler series is a custom-designed solution available in 240mm, 280mm, and 360mm radiator sizes, featuring ARGB lighting on the pump and a sleek black design that it's easy to fit in most systems.

Designed to offer high-cooling performance, the Enki AIO series eliminates “heat-transfer bottlenecks” while effectively transferring the heat from the CPU. This is achieved by careful selection of the cooling solution components, which include low thermal resistance thermal paste, custom-tuned convex copper cold plate, high-density radiator widened, low-evaporation coolant tubing, and 9-blade hydro-bearing cooling fans. Additionally, the Enki CPU coolers also feature ARGB lighting and an easy-to-mount system for a trouble-free installation process.

The custom convex cold plate reduces the total travel distance of heat from the CPU, which goes through the thermal paste before reaching it. Once it gets to the cold plate, the heat is then transferred to the stair-shaped high-density micro-fins that it will then pass it on to the coolant. The coolant travels through high flow-rate coolant tubes with 8mm inner diameter, made of thick rubber to prevent evaporation and braided with nylon for increased durability. The radiator features high-density piping to increase the surface area and efficiently dissipate the heat from the coolant into the radiator. The 240mm and 360mm radiators feature 3-4 more radiator pipes than common radiators, while the 280mm one come with 6x more pipes.

All Enki AIO CPU coolers come equipped with 9-blade hydro-bearing PWM cooling fans designed to produce high static pressure. The accessory pack included with the Enki AIO coolers include a tube of server-grade thermal paste, which stimulates a “quick heat transfer from the CPU to the copper cold plate”.

G.Skill Enki AIO series will be available in 2021, backed by a 5-year warranty.

SilverStone has launched a new series of liquid cooler called IceGem. There are three models with different radiators sizes: 240mm, 280mm, and 360mm. All models feature RGB and a unique looking CPU pump-block with a “scintillating diamond-cut design” with the SilverStone logo on top.

The new IceGem liquid coolers were designed so that the cold-plate can fully cover the whole IHS of Ryzen Threadripper processors. The characteristic octagonal pump-block and the high-pressure fans feature ARGB lighting that you can control through the included RGB controller. The controller also allows you to choose between 10 lighting modes and control the brightness and colour changing speeds.

The rubber tubing is 400mm long. The pump uses the latest 3-phase, 6-pole design for stable and silent operation and improved energy efficiency. The 120mm “pressure optimised fans” can push up to 93.8CFM of airflow at a maximum static pressure of 3.18mm/H₂O, while the 140mm ones push up to 99.2CFM of airflow at 3.1mm/H₂O. The 120mm fans spin between 600 to 2,200RPM and can generate 7.3 to 36.6dBA of noise, while the 140mm fans RPM range from 600 to 1600, and have a noise output of 9.8 to 23.4dBA.

The radiator of the 240P is 38mm thick, unlike the 280 and 360 radiators which are 28mm thick. Socket compatibility includes Intel LGA 115X/1366/1200/2011/2066 and AMD SP3/sTRX4/TR4/AM4/AM3/AM2/FM2/FM1.

The IceGem liquid coolers are available now and backed by a 3-to-5-year warranty (depending on location). The IceGem 240P is available for $139.99, the IceGem 280 for $159.99, and the IceGem 360 for $169.99.

The post Deepcool Captain 240X AIO CPU Cooler Review first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
We are back with another all-in-one CPU cooler review and today we will be taking an in-depth look at the latest iteration from the Deepcool Captain series. The Captain 240X may have a familiar appearance to users of current Captain series coolers. However, it does feature some subtle tweaks compared to previous generations.

Just like all other Deepcool Captain coolers that came before it, the Captain 240X features the distinctive U-shaped pipe rising from the centre of the pump head. Unlike previous versions, the Captain X series has been upgraded from a glass pipe to a polished stainless steel design for a more robust and industrial looking appearance.

Another “upgrade” in the Captain 240X is the use of two specially tuned TF120 S fans, designed to match the radiator properties. TF120 S fans are equipped with Deepcool’s patented two-layer fan blades and flow-amplifying, noise-cancelling frames – the same design as see on the Deepcool Castle 240EX and similar to the ones used on the Assassin III tower cooler.

A feature which Deepcool is very proud of is its Anti-leak technology. The radiator is installed with an EPDM pressure relief bag. Once internal pressure of the radiator exceeds atmospheric pressure, the bag will contract to create a void which increases the internal volume of the radiator. Therefore, relieving pressure and lowering the risk of a leak.

Although the pump housing of the Captain 240X looks very similar to previous versions, internally the pump boasts a new three-phase motor design boosting the rated TDP up to 250W – something which Deepcool claims makes it the ideal partner for high-end CPUs such as Intel Core i9 and AMD Ryzen 3000. However, the Captain X series is compatible with AMD socket TR4 and Intel 2066 so can be used with HEDT processors too.

Below the pump is a copper thermal transfer plate with micro-channel water passages and a dual-chamber design for optimal thermal dissipation. The pump impeller also features a ceramic bearing and axis for high wear resistance to provide a long pump life expectancy.

Due to the Captain 240X retaining the traditional housing shape, Deepcool was able to use its simple installation method with pre-installed sprung screw fastenings to provide a convenient installation process on all motherboard socket types, while its PWM hub and RGB extension cable allow for easy control of RGB lighting and fan speed configuration.

To cover all bases, Deepcool has opted for RGB lighting on the Pump only – this means users who require synchronised lighting effects are catered for, while others who prefer a more subtle approach can disable the RGB completely to be left with an understated, all-black aesthetic.

The Deepcool Captain 240X offers users with two choices in colour. A traditional black version is ideal to fit in with the more mainstream PC builds, while a white version is available for white themed rigs which are becoming more popular these days. Both versions are available to purchase now priced around £120 so in line with other 240mm AIOs from rival manufacturers.

Key features:

Corsair has been the market leader in the AIO liquid cooling market for a number of years offering a really varied range of not only smaller coolers for small form factor builds, but also much larger 280mm and 360mm variants for those chasing best performance.

Lots of manufacturers are packaging LEDs, and RGB functionality into their cooler, Corsair being no exception, but the new Corsair Hydro Series H100i adds to their product ”Platinum” which as with power supplies suggests an air of supremacy. Two versions are available – the 240mm H100i priced at £124.99, and 280mm at £139.99 but with slightly better compatibility. We decided to take a look at the H100i, so let's see how it holds up in our testing.

Specification:

  • Model: Hydro Series H100i RGB PLATINUM 240mm
  • Radiator Material: Aluminum
  • Radiator Dimensions: 277 × 120 x 27mm

The post Fractal Design Celsius S24 (240mm liquid cooler, alum. radiator) first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Fractal Design is changing direction with its new duo of Celsius liquid coolers that consists of the 240mm Celsius S24 and 360mm Celsius S36. We have previously reviewed Fractal Design Kelvin which is based on a copper radiator and technology from Alphacool and now it’s the turn for Celsius which uses an aluminium radiator and is made by Asetek.

This liquid cooler uses the latest 5th Generation Asetek technology which is used by other companies such as NZXT and EVGA however Celsius S24 is unlike any other liquid cooler we have seen before.

Sockets supported:
Intel 1150/1151/1155/1156, 1366, 2011, 2011-3
AMD AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, AM4, FM1, FM2, FM2+

For one thing, Celsius S24 comes with support for AMD Ryzen (Socket AM4) while other manufacturers are adding support for Ryzen to new coolers. If you buy a cooler that  has been in stock for a few weeks you may well need to apply for an AM4 mounting kit so you can proceed with your PC build. This hassle simply doesn’t apply with Fractal Design.

Delving deeper into the thinking behind Celsius S24, Fractal Design hasn’t attempted to develop its own monitoring software in the style of NZXT or Corsair but instead favours a stripped down lean-and-mean approach.

The two Dynamic X2 GP-12 PWM connect to a small fan hub on the radiator, which avoids cable clutter, and then you make a single connection to the CPU header on your motherboard to control the pump and both fans.

This should work perfectly well with any decent motherboard as the BIOS will likely give you three or four PWM profiles to control the cooler. In the event your PWM control isn’t so great Fractal Design has built in a further option. The body of the pump doubles up as a rotary switch that can be clicked from PWM mode to Auto, and this engages the Asetek firmware inside the cooler.

We found this worked in precisely the same manner as the Standard mode of the BIOS of our Asus motherboard and therefore provides a superb fallback way of controlling the cooler.

Testing

We took full advantage of the AM4 support and built a compact Ryzen 7 1700X test system that went together very easily. The new AM4 stand-offs that are supplied by Fractal Design work very well and deserve to become a new industry standard.

Installing the Celsius S24 in the roof of the case was easy enough however the 400mm hoses were so long that we had to move them around a fair amount to get them inside the case. On the plus side they are very flexible and this was not difficult.

Test System:
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 1700X 3.4GHz/3.8GHz
Motherboard:  Asus Prime X370-Pro
Memory:  16GB G.Skill FlareX DDR4-3200MHz RAM
Graphics card:  GeForce GTX 1080 8GB
Power supply: Sea Sonic Prime Titanium 850W
Storage drives: Samsung 256GB SSD M.2
OS: Windows 10 Professional.

Cooling Performance.

The Fractal Design Celsius S24 cooler delivered very satisfactory temperatures for our Ryzen 7 1700X, which was exactly what we expected to see. AMD has an excellent thermal interface inside Ryzen that really lets the cooler work to maximum efficiency.

Acoustics performance.
Our chosen be quiet! Silent Base 600 case is full of noise deadening material and the Celsius S24 was effectively silent. When you listen carefully from outside the case you can hear the fans but the pump is effectively silent. Fractal Design tells us there is additional sound dampening inside the pump to decrease noise levels, and we see no reason to disagree.

Closing Thoughts.

The Fractal Design Celsius S24 is very good. We like the stripped down approach and the combination of black radiator with white fans. While we like to see decent monitoring software, it is refreshing to find a cooler that just plugs in and works without any extra fuss or bother.

Having said that, it wouldn’t do any harm to have some illumination in the pump body. Nothing fancy, no need for RGB — just something to show that we have life.

In terms of complaints and problems we would like to see the fan cables shortened as that would make the installation even tidier, however that is as far as it goes.

It is a similar story with the 400mm hoses, which make life considerably easier when you use a tall case but conversely cause minor installation problems in a compact case.

Overall the Fractal Design Celsius S24 looks good and is an effective cooler that comes at a competitive price.

Pros:

  • Out of the box support for AM4
  • G1/4” fittings.
  • Choice of Auto and PWM modes
  • Hoses are 400mm long.

Cons:

  • Fan cables are longer than necessary.
  • Lovers of RGB will feel left out.
  • Some illumination would be good.

KitGuru says: Fractal Design takes a novel approach with the Celsius S24. Its a very capable cooler.

be quiet! has expanded its product range to add three All In One liquid coolers called Silent Loop. be quiet! already lists cases, air coolers and power supplies so liquid coolers are a logical next step. It seems appropriate that Silent Loop is designed by German company Alphacool for its German neighbour be quiet!. Specifically we see that Germany is responsible for ‘Product conception, design and quality control’ although Silent Loop is actually manufactured in China.

Silent Loop comes in three sizes. This 240mm model has a 30mm radiator thickness and is supplied with two 120mm be quiet! Pure Wings 2 fans that gives the system a 350W cooling capacity. The 280mm version costs £129.99 and uses the same 30mm radiator core as the 240mm with an increased rating of 400W.

By contrast, the 120mm tiddler has a thicker 45mm core with dual fans in push/pull (a similar configuration to Corsair H80i v2), costs £94.99, and can handle 270W.

One headline feature of Alphacool hardware is the copper used in the radiator and the water block on the CPU. We know that copper is a superb material for conducting heat and it also gives the hardware some weight and heft that makes it feel more substantial than a cooler based on an aluminium heat exchanger.

Alphacool was responsible for Fractal Design’s Kelvin All In One coolers that come in 120mm increments (T12 uses a 45mm core, S24 and S36 use a thinner 25mm core) and the CPU mounting mechanism looks very similar. The hold-down plate on the CPU water block is formed in two parts that slide into a groove on the block and then clip together. If you have ever tried to install an All In One single handed and suffered from components that fall off at an inconvenient moment you will appreciate the design details that Alphacool brings to the party.

Silent Loop will feel familiar to anyone who has dealt with Alphacool or Fractal Design Kelvin hardware but there is a new feature that be quiet! is headlining with Silent Loop. This is a ‘reverse-flow pump’ that apparently runs smoother and more quietly than a conventional pump. We read their explanation and watched their video and were frankly none the wiser.

There is no denying the pump is quiet and the hardware appears to work well, but there is nothing to suggest a bold and radical new approach to liquid cooling. It is our guess that be quiet! and Alphacool have gone down this route to avoid patent problems with Asetek who own a significant amount of IP in the world of pump-on-block cooling systems.

The quality of the hardware appears top notch including the machined face of the block and the nickel plating. There is a fill port on the block as you are expected to top up the fluid every two years, although quite how coolant might be lost is a bit of a mystery.

As you will see in our video, we installed the Silent Loop 240mm in a be quiet! Silent Base 600 case, rather than the larger Dark Base 900 we have previously used. The medium thickness radiator core used in Silent Loop 240mm, and the offset mounting holes in the case, mean we were able to install the cooler in the roof of the case without a struggle.

We had installed the Pure Wings 2 fans on the radiator before the assembly went into the case and this is where we found one of the detail differences that we imagine were specified by be quiet!. The mounting screws for the fans look like Alphacool’s usual button heads but actually have a Phillips head, and the same is true for the screws that hold down the water block. You only need a single screwdriver to install Silent Loop and have no need to go hunting for a tiny Allen key.

Initially we connected the two fans to the supplied Y connector and then used the CPU OPT connector on the motherboard. However, this didn’t work correctly so we switched to one of the SYS headers and all was well.

build-650

It took moments to install the water block on our Gigabyte GA-X99-UD4 but that’s part of the delight of LGA2011-3 as there is no backplate to faff with. If you are using Intel LGA115x or AMD AMx/FMx you will find the necessary hardware in the accessory pack.

The hoses used by Alphacool are the familiar small diameter tubes that have protective springs to prevent kinking. You can clearly see in our photos and video the hoses take a gentle radius and give no cause for concern but neither do they fight back and resist installation.

Testing

There is no USB connection or monitoring software supplied with Silent Loop, so once the radiator and CPU block are in place the job is pretty much done, apart from setting fan speed in the UEFI or BIOS. Initially we used the Normal profile in the Gigabyte set-up screen which ran the fans at 1,100rpm. This was very quiet but also allowed the Core i7-5820K to run at 55°C under maximum load.

Switching to the Maximum fan speed profile gave a speed of 1,800rpm (be quiet! states 2,000rpm in the spec, which is close to manufacturing tolerance), however this was too noisy to be acceptable. We compromised at a Manual setting of 1,400rpm that was barely audible and kept the CPU temperature below 50 degrees at maximum load.

Test System:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7-5820K
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte X99-UD4
  • Case: be quiet! Silent Base 600
  • Memory: 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-2800Hz RAM
  • Graphics card: Sapphire Radeon Fury X 4GB
  • Power supply: be quiet! Straight Power 10 700W
  • Storage drives: OCZ Vector 180 SSD
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10

Thermal Performance:

Ambient temperature = normalised to 22°C.

temps_

CPU temperature is essentially the same as we saw with Corsair H100i V2, however we are quite sure the more restrictive nature of the be quiet! Silent Base 600 case has a small effect on the figures. That is a minor detail and to all intents and purposes the Silent Loop 240 performs equally with the ‘industry standard' Corsair H100i V2.

Acoustics Performance

Turn the fans down low and Silent Loop 240 is effectively silent. The pump is very quiet indeed and we detected none of the ticking noise you get with some All In Ones. Turning the fans up to a higher speed had an immediate impact on noise and also reduced temperatures in a straight trade-off.

We compromised with a fan speed of 1,400rpm that was audible but in no way offensive and were very happy with the noise levels from Silent Loop.

Closing Thoughts

be quiet! has delivered solid hardware with Silent Loop, however you shouldn’t get too carried away and think of this All In One as the basis for a custom loop. While it may be possible to add in a GPU block or a VRM block you are effectively limited by the fact the pump and reservoir are located on the water block. It is also fair to say the Silent Loop lacks the sophistication you get with EKWB Predator where the fans connect to a hub that is mounted on the radiator.

With Silent Loop you are buying a quality copper radiator and water block that have a minimalist appeal that is only slightly compromised by the need to connect the two fans and pump separately. The fact that Silent Loop doesn’t have a USB connection could be seen as a failing in some quarters but actually works perfectly well if you install a good monitoring software such as NZXT CAM.

bequiet-silent-look-240mm-review-on-kitguru-conclusion-650

Provided you think of Silent Loop as a minimalist All In One that is built on solid engineering, and you are happy to pay a small premium over Corsair H100i V2, then all is well. On the other hand, it is tricky to put your finger on a single aspect of Silent Loop that beats the opposition and makes it a winner. Certainly it works well and is very quiet indeed but probably the simplest test is to ask what you think of the aesthetics.

If you like the looks of Silent Loop compared to its competitors, we suggest you buy it. One thing is certain, if you make that choice we are confident you will not be disappointed.

Today we are going to take a look at an interesting water cooling product – the Raijintek Triton, an ‘all in one' CPU cooler. The Triton has been designed to be user upgradable … in fact Raijintek take things a step further and actively encourage users (who have the necessary skills) to customise their loop.

We have reviewed a number of products from Raijintek in the past and have been quite impressed with what they have to offer.  It is clear that they are looking to take on the longer established brands in the market with a slightly different take on what is already out there.

Today we are going to take a look at the latest all-in-one liquid CPU cooler from Cooler Master – the Nepton 240M. While Cooler Master may not be the first manufacturer that comes to mind when you think of all-in-one water coolers, they are starting to build a range of different product options in this category.

With the release of the Nepton 240M, Cooler Master's all-in-one water cooler range encompasses all four of the most popular radiator sizes; 120mm, 140mm, 240mm and 280mm.  This puts it in a great position to compete with the more established players in the market, namely Corsair.

Cooler Master have adopted a different strategy to most other manufacturers who have entered the all-in-one liquid cooling market.  Rather than simply brand an off-the-shelf design from Asetek, they have created their own product which is different from the competition. Can they compete?

Today we are going to look at the Cooler Master N200 case which is a mainstream model designed with water cooling in mind.  It occupies a compact mid-tower form factor and can accommodate a micro-ATX motherboard as well as an array of high-end components. Being a budget model, the N200 seems like an ideal option for those who have a restricted budget and wan't to concentrate their efforts on gaining the most performance, rather than a top-notch case.

Cooler Master are one of the longest established companies in the PC Case market and has a very wide range of cases available, from ultra-value to ultra high-end.  Their cases are favoured by many as they usually offer good build quality and features at a reasonable price.

Over the past couple of years, the PC chassis market has become increasingly competitive, forcing Cooler Master to release new models to stay in the game.

Today we are going to look at the latest all-in-one CPU water cooler from Cooler Master, the Eisberg Prestige 240L which competes with the latest models from the likes of Corsair and NZXT.  The Eisberg range is targeted specifically at enthusiasts and boasts a number of exciting features that differentiate it from the competition.

Cooler Master has been a little slow with the launch of the Eisberg series of all-in-one CPU coolers for as it's taken much longer than expected to get them ready for market.  In the meantime, they released their Seidon range of more mainstream liquid coolers which performed well in our tests.

Today we are going to look at the Cooler Master Seidon 240M which is the latest 240 mm liquid CPU cooler to hit the market.  We were very impressed with Cooler Master's first attempt at a liquid CPU cooler, the Seidon 120M, when we reviewed it back in January.  It offered great value for money and was one of the cheapest all-in-one models on the market.

Cooler Master has been fairly late to market with their all-in-one liquid cooling units, compared to the likes of Corsair and Antec. With the ever increasing popularity of Corsair's all-in-one models, it's not surprising that they have started releasing competing products.

In this review we will be comparing the Cooler Master Seidon 240M with the Corsair H100i, H110 and the NZXT Kraken X60.

Features

  • Factory filled with coolant, then sealed and pressure tested – requires zero maintenance for years.
  • Waterblock made with UltraFine Micro Channel enlarge the contact surface between cold plate and coolant.
  • Durable and powerful water pump – dissipates heat effectively and maintains temperatures through stable water circulation.
  • Performance 240mm radiator is designed for handling high wattage overclocked CPU.
  • Double 120mm PWM fan with a wide RPM range to fine tune and balance fan noise and performance.
