We are starting to get a better idea of what launch pricing will be for the upcoming slate of 1TB and 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSDs. Earlier this week, we learned that Corsair will be launching its 1TB drive at the $249.99 mark and now, it looks like the Gigabyte Aorus PCIe 4.0 SSD will be priced just a tad higher.

The Corsair MP600 is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 4950MB/s and sequential write speeds up to 4250MB/s. We spotted the competing Gigabyte Aorus PCIe 4.0 SSD at Computex last month and it does boast slightly higher peak speeds, with sequential read speeds of up to 5000MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 4400MB/s.

The Corsair MP600 will hit the market at $249.99 for 1TB and $449.99 for 2TB. The Gigabyte Aorus 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD will be priced a bit higher at $259.99 and the 2TB version will cost $479.99. Gigabyte's SSDs will be shipping a little earlier too, with availability scheduled for the 8th of July rather than the 13th.

Of course, the best way to make use of one of these SSDs is by upgrading to 3rd Gen Ryzen and an X570 motherboard, which we've heard will end up being quite expensive. If you are in the market for both of those things, then you may well want to factor in an SSD upgrade too.

KitGuru Says: I'm very impressed by the speeds of these SSDs so far but from what we've been hearing from conversations with folks in the industry, even faster PCIe 4.0 drives aren't too far off. Are any of you planning on upgrading your PC this year? Will you be looking to get a PCIe 4.0 SSD?

The Zen 2 architecture has paved the way for 7nm, IPC improvements, higher core counts and more, all at sensible prices.

It has been a long time coming but today at Computex 2019, AMD officially launched its new 3rd Gen Ryzen processors, bringing the promise of higher core counts, IPC improvements and 7nm technology to its CPU lineup. There are five CPUs announced today, ranging from 6 core Ryzen 5 SKUs all the way up to a 12 core Ryzen 9.

This latest generation of Ryzen processors are based on the Zen 2 architecture, delivering a 15 percent IPC improvement over Zen 1. The Zen 2 CPU core will power 3rd Gen Ryzen and upcoming EPYC processors but of course, IPC improvements and core counts are just one part of the story. Alongside 3rd Gen Ryzen, AMD is also launching the X570 chipset for socket AM4, the world's first PCIe 4.0 supported motherboard chipset, which will have an impact on both upcoming GPUs and SSDs. On the storage front, you can expect up to 42 percent higher performance from PCIe 4.0 SSDs compared to a PCIe 3.0 equivalent.

More than 50 new motherboards are going to be rolling out to launch alongside 3rd Gen Ryzen, with options from ASUS, Gigabyte, ASRock, MSI, Colorful and more. PCIe 4.0 SSDs are also on the way from CORSAIR, Phison, Gigabyte, Galaxy and others.

Now back to the good stuff, five 3rd Gen Ryzen processors were announced today, here is the full spec sheet:

CPU Cores/Threads Base/Boost speed (GHz) Total Cache (MB) PCIe 4.0 Lanes TDP (W) Suggested Pricing (USD)
Ryzen 9 3900X 12/24 3.8/4.6 70 40 105 $499
Ryzen 7 3800X 8/16 3.9/4.5 36 40 105 $399
Ryzen 7 3700X 8/16 3.6/4.4 36 40 65 $329
Ryzen 5 3600X 6/12 3.8/4.4 35 40 95 $249
Ryzen 5 3600 6/12 3.6/4.2 35 40 65 $199

According to AMD's own comparison benchmarks, a Ryzen 7 3700X should offer up to 30 percent more multi-threaded performance in real-time rendering and 1 percent more performance in single-threaded rendering. When it comes to gaming, the Ryzen 7 3800X matches the Intel Core i9-9900K in PUBG. Finally, the Ryzen 9 3900X beats the Intel Core i9-9920X in Blender Render tests by 16 percent.

The Ryzen 3000 series will be launching on the 7th of July, so expect to be able to read reviews and pick one up on that date. There will also be a slew of motherboard options to choose from, which we'll be diving into over the course of this week as we make our way around Computex. It is worth noting that while Threadripper is not on the roadmap right now, AMD has confirmed that it intends to revisit that series in the future. Going by what Ryzen 9 offers, it seems like you could make a safe guess as to what core/thread counts 3rd Gen Threadripper will tackle.

AMD has also given us an update on the future of Radeon graphics, announcing the RDNA architecture and RX 5700 series. You can find all of the details on that, HERE.

KitGuru Says: 3rd Gen Ryzen is looking incredibly good so far, especially at those prices. Are any of you planning on upgrading once these come out?

There were plenty of Ryzen 3000 and Zen 2 rumours floating around prior to AMD's CES keynote today. Those that were hoping for a full unveiling will be disappointed but we did at least get some details on AMD's next-gen processors for desktop. 3rd Gen Ryzen will be launching in mid-2019, with Q2 or Q3 availability currently planned.

The first major announcement today was Radeon VII, the world's first 7nm gaming graphics card based on Vega 2. However, we also have some details on the future for AMD's CPU products. Zen 2 is coming this year and just as promised, these next-gen processors will be built on the 7nm process, which will help drive performance and efficiency improvements. Aside from having the jump on 7nm for desktops, AMD CEO, Lisa Su, also announced that 3rd Gen Ryzen processors will be the first in the world to support PCIe 4.0.

During the CES keynote, Lisa Su showed some performance numbers for an unnamed Ryzen 3000 series CPU in Cinebench R15. The benchmark shows this mystery chip scoring 2023 points, which is almost identical to the Core i9 9900K. Meanwhile, last year's Ryzen 7 2700X scores 1754 points in the same test, so we are looking at a decent performance bump.

Unfortunately, those are all of the confirmed details we have for the time being, but we will be hearing much more about Zen 2 over the coming months. Launch is pinned for mid-2019, so perhaps we'll see a full unveiling at Computex in June, with a rollout to retailers and reviewers over the Summer.

KitGuru Says: If AMD can continue its current trend of trading blows with Intel at a lower price, then Zen 2 will likely be another big success. Are any of you waiting on 3rd Gen Ryzen before upgrading?
