Alan Wake 2 was a pretty demanding game at launch, but after spending some additional time optimising the game further, Remedy now has the game at a point where it can actually lower the game's PC system requirements.

The minimum PC system requirements for Alan Wake 2 have now been updated, recommending an RX 5600 XT or GeForce GTX 1070 to play the game at 1080p with low settings. The new optimisations are all present in the game's new 1.0.16.1 update, which is now available to all PC players. Currently, Alan Wake 2 is exclusive to the Epic Games Store.

Initially, Remedy had not recommending older GTX 10 series or RX 5000 series graphics cards due to the use of DirectX 12 Ultimate features like mesh shading, which aren't officially supported on those GPUs. However, it has since improved rendering without mesh shaders and as a result, those with older systems will now be able to play the game.

The game is still an intensive one to run, so do keep that in mind. Getting 60FPS on a GTX 10 series GPU will likely be a struggle.

New performance improvements will also impact newer GPUs. Digital Foundry has done some testing with the new patch already, benchmarking the older Pascal-era GPUs, as well as newer GPUs like the RTX 4070. In the case of the RTX 4070, they noted a 14 percent performance uplift.

Alan Wake 2 launched in October and Remedy has now given us an update on how the game is doing. Ahead of the first of two story DLCs planned, Remedy has sold around 1.3 million copies, a figure that the studio is happy with.

In a statement on the milestone, Remedy's CEO, Tero Virtala, said: “We are happy with the start of Alan Wake 2’s sales. The price point has also remained at a high level, and the game has already recouped a significant part of the development and marketing expenses. We will continue to develop the game to serve existing fans and attract new players and expect the game to continue selling well.”

No doubt part of that sales boost will come via the release of expansions, of which two are already planned. These expansions will further expand Remedy's multiverse, with connections to previous games like Control.

So far, the game does appear to be seeing stronger sales than Control, shipping more copies in two months than Control did in four months. If Remedy can keep up the pace for Alan Wake 2 sales, it may surpass Control's 4 million copies milestone in far less time.

KitGuru Says: Alan Wake 2 really is an excellent game but it isn't as action-heavy as something like Control, which may throw some off if your first Remedy game was Quantum Break or Control and not the original Alan Wake. If you are into the dark thriller atmosphere and a gritty detective story, then it is a game you absolutely should play.

Remedy Entertainment impressed us all once again with the release of Alan Wake II in October. The game has swiftly been nominated as one of the best releases of the year thanks to its inventive and unique blend of action, horror and exploration. However, Remedy isn't done with the game yet. We already know of two story-focused DLCs on the way but before that, Remedy will be releasing a New Game+ update with some additions to the game's narrative.

We already knew that the New Game+ update would introduce a higher difficulty level for those seeking a challenge. Now, Screenrant has reported some additional details about the update. The update will be called ‘Final Draft' and will make some changes to the game's narrative, including new manuscript pages to find and new TV screen videos throughout the world, shedding a different light on some of the events taking place.

Of course, diving into New Game+, players will also keep their character upgrades from their first run, allowing you to hit the ground running without having to worry about levelling up and upgrading gear.

Following this update, in 2024, we will see two DLCs for Alan Wake II, one focused on Night Springs, a fictional TV series written by Alan Wake in this universe. The second DLC will take players to The Lake House, a mysterious government research facility, not unlike The Oldest House from Control. We can expect Remedy to continue fleshing out its multiverse concept with these updates, along with future projects, like Control 2.

Remedy made its plans for an inter-connected universe of games well known with the second expansion for Control, which featured a tie-in with Alan Wake. Now, it looks like this cross-universe worldbuilding will continue with an upcoming expansion for Alan Wake 2.

Alan Wake 2 officially launched last week to huge critical acclaim. Despite some initial performance concerns based on the game's high PC system requirements, the final product runs pretty well across a range of machines and has very scalable graphics options. Now that the game is out, Remedy is turning its attention to future content, with two expansions planned for the game.

The first expansion will focus on Night Springs, a fictional TV show in Alan Wake. The second expansion is equally interesting, taking place at The Lake House, a mysterious facility being used by an independent government organisation to conduct secret research. That sure sounds a lot like the AWE experiments we saw at The Oldest House in Control.

Given that Control and Alan Wake have crossed over previously it makes sense that The Lake House would be used to further intertwine those two universes. After Alan Wake 2, it is highly likely that Remedy's next big single-player game will be a sequel to Control as well.

KitGuru Says: I'm interested in seeing how Remedy expands on its multiverse. With that said, Control and Alan Wake are distinctively different games, so there may only be so much collaboration that makes sense.

Alan Wake 2 officially launches tomorrow and it sounds like Remedy has cooked up an end-of-year hit. Reviews for the game went live today, the latest game to achieve a 90+ overall rating.

2023 was already a pretty stacked year for highly-rated games, with titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Spider-Man 2, Starfield, Baldur's Gate 3, Diablo 4, Hi-Fi Rush, Hogwarts Legacy and many others all scoring highly. Alan Wake 2 is the latest to join the list of critical hits. Currently, the game's overall score on Metacritic sits at 89 for the PS5 version, but the very technically impressive PC version has scored even higher, with a 92 overall rating based on close to as many total reviews. There is not currently an overall score available for the Xbox version.

Over on OpenCritic, we see a similar story, with the game earning an 89 average score and a Mighty rating, ranking it amongst the best games of the year so far.

Alan Wake 2 launches tomorrow for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5. On PC, players will benefit from not just ray-tracing, but a full path-tracing option as well for even better visuals. If you want to crank the settings all the way up, you will need a high-end rig, however. Path Tracing in particular will require DLSS 3 with frame generation to reach high frame rates, a feature that is only available on RTX 40 series graphics cards.

Alan Wake 2 is just around the corner. We've already had a look at the demanding PC system requirements and now, we get to dive into exactly why the game requires such beefy hardware. The simple answer is ray-tracing, and lots of it.

The team at Remedy began pushing graphical boundaries with Control, one of the first ambitious attempts to bring ray-tracing effects into a game. While many games at the time were sticking to either shadows or reflections, Remedy opted to include a more full suite of ray-tracing effects in Control, including transparent reflections, shadows, diffuse lighting and even ray-traced debris. Now with Alan Wake 2, Remedy is dialling things up once again.

Alan Wake 2 will ship with full path-tracing, becoming one of just a handful of released games to support the technology. This unlocks the full potential of ray-tracing but it comes at a heavy performance cost, which is where DLSS 3 comes in. DLSS 3 is currently an essential requirement for achieving truly playable frame rates with path tracing enabled, which is the main reason you can't switch it on in Cyberpunk 2077 without an RTX 40 series GPU.

Of course, you can dial down to standard ray-tracing settings or toggle certain settings off to achieve more performance on cards that don't support DLSS 3. If you activate DLSS and ray-tracing in Alan Wake 2, Nvidia's ray-reconstruction technology will automatically switch on too, so you'll get better RT fidelity while using the AI upscaling to save on performance.

In Alan Wake 2, the RT Medium and RT High presets both enable path tracing, with the medium setting offering one ray bounce and RT Ambient Occlusion on the last hit. The High preset will trace three ray bounces for even more realistic lighting. The RT Low preset disables path tracing.

Alongside the RTX launch trailer for Alan Wake 2, we also get our first benchmarks. According to Nvidia, at 4K with an RTX 4090 and DLSS 3, you'll be able to max out the game with ray-tracing and still achieve 120FPS. Meanwhile, RTX 4080 users should see a 4.1X performance improvement with DLSS 3. At 1440p, RTX 4070 users will be able to achieve 80+FPS with max settings, including ray-tracing.

Alan Wake 2 officially releases on the 27th of October. The game is also a freebie for anyone picking up an RTX 40 series graphics card this month.

KitGuru Says: Are you planning to pick up Alan Wake 2 later this week?

It looks like we're in for another Xbox games showcase. While the summer showcase focused on first-party games, this month's unveilings will focus primarily on third-party studios.

We won't be seeing what's next for Starfield, Hellblade, Fable or Avowed at the next Xbox showcase but we will get updates on plenty of third-party games. The stream is planned to last for around 30 minutes and a few games are already confirmed to be showing up, including the likes of Alan Wake 2, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Ark: Survival Ascended. The stream will go live on the 25th of October at 6PM BST.

Those three aren't such surprising picks. Xbox has had plenty of marketing deals with Sega in recent years, with several focusing on the Yakuza series, which has grown in popularity outside of Japan over the last five years. Aside from that, Xbox was also the stage setter for the Ark 2 announcement, so seeing the Survival Ascended remaster popping up here isn't much of a shock.

These are just a few of the games we expect to see though, so there should be a few surprises in store. Needless to say, as this is third-party focused, don't expect to see any announcements from Activision Blizzard either.

KitGuru Says: We'll have to wait and see what ends up at the show but the teaser doesn't have me too excited. Alan Wake 2 comes out in a week and Ark: Survival Ascended has done nothing but anger fans of the original game. However, it will be good to see Yakuza making an appearance. Yakuza 7 was my favourite of the series, so I have high hopes for the sequel.

Alan Wake II is on the cusp of release. We already know that the game will be ambitious from a technical standpoint, as Remedy has implemented a range of ray-tracing and Path Tracing settings. It is also the second game to support DLSS 3.5, which features ray-reconstruction technology. Now, the full PC system requirements have been announced and it looks like we are in for a pretty demanding game.

The PC specifications shared by Remedy include both rasterized and Ray Tracing/Path Tracing settings. A powerful graphics card, such as the Nvidia RTX 4070 or AMD Radeon RX 7800XT, is required to play the game at 4K/60FPS. However, note that's with DLSS/FSR Performance Mode. Fortunately, CPU requirements are much lower, recommending something like a Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel equivalent.

It's worth noting that Remedy made no mention of AMD GPUs for the game's Path Tracing Mode. As a result, even if you have a powerful AMD GPU, such as the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, it may not produce high framerates for smooth gameplay. For Medium/PathTracing/1080p at 60 FPS, Remedy recommends an Nvidia RTX 4070 and DLSS 3 Performance Mode (most likely with Frame Generation on).

Regardless of the settings you plan to use to play Alan Wake II, it's always recommended to have an SSD with 90GB of free storage space. Alan Wake II will be released on October 27th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Nvidia has a lot of updates in the pipeline today. For starters, a new GeForce Game Ready driver has dropped, bringing support for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 beta, as well as new releases like Forza Motorsport and Lords of the Fallen. Beyond that, new DLSS games have been announced, alongside the latest GeForce RTX game bundle.

We'll start off with the game bundle – if you are buying an RTX 40 series graphics card, starting from October 12th, you will also get a free code for Alan Wake 2. This makes perfect sense as Alan Wake 2 uses Nvidia technology, including the latest DLSS 3.5 with ray-reconstruction for better ray-traced visuals.

Other games set to launch with DLSS this month include Lords of the Fallen, RoboCop: Rogue City (demo), Highrise City and of course, the Modern Warfare 3 beta.

NVIDIA has launched a new GeForce Game Ready Driver for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III PC Multiplayer Open Beta, Forza Motorsport & Lords of the Fallen. You can download the new driver now through the GeForce Experience app.

Wonder and more set to release within days of Alan Wake II. As such, the game has now been delayed slightly to give “more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games.”

Making the announcement on Twitter, the team at Remedy Entertainment said “An update from the Alan Wake 2 team: we're moving Alan Wake 2's launch from October 17 to October 27. October is an amazing month for game launches and we hope this date shift gives more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games. We can't wait to show you what everyone's favorite novelist is up to in the Dark Place next week. Thanks for your patience!”

As mentioned, October will be one of the busiest months of the year, with just some of the games set to drop then including Assassin’s Creed Mirage (5th October); Forza Motorsport (10th October); Lords of the Fallen (13th October); Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (20th October); Super Mario Bros. Wonder (20th October); Cities: Skylines 2 (24th October) and Alone in the Dark (25th October).

Pushing Alan Wake II to the tail-end of the month not only allows for players to have more time with all of these aforementioned games, but will also bring the survival horror title closer to Halloween – making it an even more appropriate release date.

Earlier this week during the PlayStation Showcase, the first gameplay trailer for Alan Wake 2 finally dropped and better yet, we got confirmation of an October release date. Since then, Remedy has revealed a few more details – for starters, Alan Wake 2 won't be a ‘full-priced' game and PC players will get a discount over the console versions.

Alan Wake 2 is going to be a digital-only game, a shift that Remedy says has allowed it to keep the price of the game at the old standard of $60. On PC, players will get a bit more money knocked off the asking price, bringing the day-one cost down to $50. Here in the UK, this works out to be £49.99 for the console version and £39.99 for the PC version.

Of course, as is often the case with modern games, launch is just the beginning. Remedy does have plans for two expansions, which will be sold bundled together as part of the Expansion Pass. Those who buy the more expensive Digital Deluxe edition (£54.99 on PC, £64.99 on console), will get a set of cosmetics, including new outfits and weapon skins.

The lack of a physical disc release for Alan Wake 2 has caused a small stir online, to the point where THQ has offered to help out with a physical release, so we'll have to wait and see what comes of that.

Alan Wake 2 will be released for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on the 17th of October.

Earlier this month, the voice actor for Alan Wake revealed that Remedy was planning to release the game in October. Today during the PlayStation Showcase, the first gameplay trailer for Alan Wake 2 officially dropped, confirming the October launch.

Alan Wake 2 was first announced at The Game Awards in 2021 with a small cinematic trailer. Today's trailer is much more substantial, introducing us to a new playable character and giving us a small glimpse into the events of the game:

Judging by what was shown, the gameplay may not have evolved much since the original Alan Wake, but it is also entirely possible that Remedy is saving some surprises for later reveals. Story telling on the other hand does seem to have improved considerably.

Alan Wake 2 will be released for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on the 17th of October.

Remedy has been working away on Alan Wake 2 for a few years now, with plans for a 2023 launch. We don't have an exact date yet and Remedy has yet to show any gameplay. However, that should change very soon, as according to the voice actor behind the Alan Wake character, the game is coming out in October.

Recently, Matthew Porretta, the voice actor who plays the titular character from the Alan Wake games, appeared on the Monsters, Madness and Magic podcast and confirmed he has been recording voice lines for the new game. He says they are “in the middle of working on it now”, adding that it is “supposed to come out in October”.

Given that Alan Wake is a horror game, or at the very least, a dark thriller, October makes for a perfect release window for the long-awaited sequel. The original Alan Wake was an Xbox 360 exclusive and later released on PC. The IP went dormant for a decade while Remedy focused on other projects, like Quantum Break and Control. Interestingly, Control shares the same universe as Alan Wake and in one of the game's DLCs, we see that come to fruition with a cameo appearance from Mr. Wake himself.

At this point, Alan Wake is playable on all current platforms, including PC, Xbox, PlayStation and even the Nintendo Switch thanks to a remastered release.

While Porretta may have overshared slightly, ultimately he didn't reveal anything we couldn't have guessed for ourselves. The lack of gameplay reveal indicates that the game will be released later in the year, rather than over the summer. Given the game's genre, an October release target makes perfect sense.

Alan Wake 2 will be coming out for Xbox Series X/S, PC and PS5. Remedy will likely show off a new trailer and officially announce a release date during one of the upcoming summer game showcases, such as Summer Game Fest, or one of the upcoming showcases from Xbox or PlayStation.

KitGuru Says: It has been so long since the first Alan Wake released and Remedy has explored a ton of new gameplay mechanics and story-telling methods in other projects since then. With that in mind, I'm very much looking forward to seeing what Remedy does with this sequel, and whether or not it will expand on the shared universe idea the team set up with Control.

In 2021, Remedy confirmed that its next major project would be Alan Wake 2, with the team finally returning to its horror franchise after more than a decade. We didn't hear much about the game through 2022, but it does seem to be on track for its planned 2023 release date, as the developers have hit a new milestone.

As part of Remedy's most recent investors report, the studio revealed that “Alan Wake 2 is in full production”. Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala, also added that the game is “playable from start to finish”, marking a pretty big milestone in development.

With the game now playable, the team will dial in on balancing and bug squashing, while also making adjustments wherever they see fit to polish up the product. Alan Wake 2 does not have a final release date yet, but the game is targeting a 2023 launch. If we had to guess, we'd pencil this game in for some time in Q4.

While Alan Wake 2 is making good progress, Remedy did also note that Alan Wake Remastered has still not yet sold enough copies to generate royalty payments for the studio. Sales could pick up though once marketing begins for Alan Wake 2, as new and returning players will be looking to run through the first game in preparation for the sequel.

After years of waiting, Remedy announced Alan Wake 2 late last year, with plans to release the game in 2023. While usually that would mean we would see the game in action this year, Remedy has decided to not make any major reveals this summer to avoid taking resources away from development.

Remedy's next major project is Alan Wake 2, planned to release on Xbox Series X/S, PC (via Epic Games Store) and PS5 in 2023. We won't be seeing gameplay just yet though. As Creative Director, Sam Lake, explains, creating “a proper, polished demo or a trailer takes a lot of effort, and it's several months of work that could take away from development”.

Speaking during an Alan Wake anniversary update video, Lake also added that the team has “momentum going” and that “a great deal of the game is playable”, so it seems the timing just wasn't right to slow down production in order to produce a vertical slice demo and a new gameplay trailer.

Remedy is able to do this in part due to the backing of Epic Games, which will be publishing the game. Judging by Lake's statements, development is going well, so the game should still meet its 2023 target.

KitGuru Says: It sounds like we'll have a pretty quick turnaround from the gameplay reveal to Alan Wake 2's release, which could be a good thing. With the amount of delays and drawn out marketing cycles in recent years, it will be refreshing to see a game in action for the first time and actually be able to play it just a few months later.

We all knew that Alan Wake would be returning someday, particularly after Control's second expansion came out, it was really more a question of when we would see a sequel announced. That day has finally come, with Alan Wake 2 being revealed at The Game Awards.

Remedy's next major project is Alan Wake 2, planned to release on Xbox Series X/S, PC (via Epic Games Store) and PS5 in 2023:

The trailer gives us brief snippets at the original game's New York City and Pacific Northwest settings, hinting that we may return to re-tread old ground. This time around, Remedy will be taking a survival horror approach, dubbing this as the studio's ‘first ever survival horror game', moving away from the action focus of previous titles from the company.

Alan Wake originally released back in 2010 and despite garnering cult-classic status, Remedy took a long break from the series. That changed in 2019, when Control's second expansion released, including a cameo from the character and indicating that both Control and Alan Wake take place in the same shared universe. Back in October, Alan Wake re-released in remastered form across PC and consoles.

KitGuru Says: This is just a small teaser, but with Alan Wake 2 scheduled for 2023, we should see and hear much more about this game over the next year.

We've been expecting Remedy Entertainment to revisit the Alan Wake IP for quite some time now, having acquired the rights from Microsoft and re-introduced the titular character in an expansion for another game, Control. Now, it looks like we'll be getting an Alan Wake Remaster, and it won't be long before we get our hands on it.

In a retail listing, Rakuten Taiwan revealed PlayStation and Xbox versions of Alan Wake Remastered, as well as a 5th of October release date. According to analyst Daniel Ahmad, Remedy is planning to officially announce Alan Wake Remastered and its release date next week.

Currently, Remedy Entertainment is working on several projects, one of which is believed to be a long-awaited sequel to Alan Wake. Before we get to that though, we'll be getting a chance to re-experience the original game with this new remaster.

Given that this information has already leaked, Remedy should be quick to confirm the game and its release date early next week.

KitGuru Says: If all of this holds true, there will be a very quick turnaround from announcement to release for Alan Wake Remastered. Will any of you be picking this up once it drops?

We learned last year that Remedy was working on two unannounced projects, both of which are being funded and published by Epic Games. Now, we may know what one of this projects is, as sources this week claim that Remedy is indeed working on Alan Wake 2.

Alan Wake originally released over a decade ago on the Xbox 360 and while it did get an expansion in the form of American Nightmare, many fans have been hoping for a full sequel. According to games journalist Jeff Grubb, Alan Wake 2 is indeed one of the two projects that Epic Games funded.

This is a change in strategy for Epic Games, moving away from buying exclusivity for already in-development titles and instead helping fund new games from the ground up. Remedy hasn't announced anything official yet, but the studio did tease a return to Alan Wake last year with Control's second expansion.

If all of this is true, the Alan Wake 2 will be the “AAA multiplatform game” that entered pre-production last year. Remedy is also working on a “small-scale project set in the same franchise”, which is also being funded by Epic Games.

It has been a while since we last had the chance to talk about Alan Wake. Since the game's initial release in 2010, there have been plenty of rumours surrounding a potential sequel. It turns out that Remedy was in-fact working on Alan Wake 2 at one point but unfortunately, the project was shelved.

Speaking with VG247 at PAX East last week, Remedy Entertainment's director of communications, Thomas Puha, spoke briefly about the possibility of Alan Wake 2: “We were working on Alan Wake 2 years ago and it just didn’t pan out, so there’s nothing. We’re just booked solid for the next couple of years, really”.

Puha did explain that Remedy still owns the Alan Wake IP, so it is possible we'll see the series make a return some day. Unfortunately, “time, money and resources” are all roadblocks at this point in time.

Later this year, Remedy will be releasing Control, a new game that seems to take some of the lessons learned from Quantum Break and channel it into another new IP- this time for PC, Xbox One and PS4.

KitGuru Says: Alan Wake was excellent for its time but from the sounds of it, we won't be seeing the series return any time soon. Remedy's current focus is Control, and according to Puha, the studio's next project is already on the books. Would any of you like to see Alan Wake return someday? Would you want a direct sequel, or some kind of reboot?
