Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is shaping up to be the best Smash Bros ‘Clone’ so far, with many of the company’s biggest shows and characters being represented from across everyone’s childhoods. Unfortunately, it was previously confirmed that the game wouldn’t include any voice acting – though this may in fact change in the future.

As part of an interview conducted by Game Informer, the CEO of All-Star Brawl’s developer Ludocity – Joel Nyström – was asked “Many of the characters announced so far have iconic voices attached to them. Are the characters included voiced by the original actors? If so, who's on board?”

In response, Nystrom claimed that “Our focus was on creating the best possible gameplay experience for core brawling fans and Nickelodeon fans around the globe. It is not as straightforward to do as one might think, and as we continue to build the Nick All-Star Brawl franchise, we will be reviewing all options, which may include adding VO down the road.”

While this may initially sound disappointing, it is worth noting that the roster for All-Stars Brawl spans across the entire history of Nickelodeon, including shows such as Spongebob Squarepants; the Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles; Avatar: The Last Airbender; CatDog; Danny Phantom; Hey Arnold!; The Wild Thornberrys; Rugrats and The Ren & Stimpy Show.

While there is no doubt that adding the original voices to these characters would give the game a whole added level of nostalgia, fun and…character, it is understandable as to why doing so would be so complicated. Hopefully the game proves to be fun in its own right, with the potential of added voices being a pure bonus.

While Nintendo has slowed down the rate at which it adds new titles to its NES and SNES Online services, the console manufacturer recently brought a new game to the service – or more accurately, a collection of games. In celebration of Mario’s 35th anniversary, the original Super Mario All-Stars has joined the Switch’s SNES Online service.

Announced during the Super Mario 35th anniversary Nintendo Direct, the console manufacturer revealed that the from-the-ground-up remakes of the 4 classic NES Mario titles were shadow-dropping onto the Switch SNES Online service. The 4 games in question are:

  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels
  • Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Super Mario Bros. 3

While these titles are technically already available via the NES Online app, the All-Stars versions include completely remade graphics, mimicking the style of the SNES, featuring 16-bit graphics instead of the original’s 8-bit. Furthermore, gameplay itself is altered slightly, which some people prefer, while others don’t.

Super Mario All-Stars is available for free to all those that are subscribed to Nintendo’s Nintendo Switch Online service, and joins over 70 other titles available across both the NES and SNES Online apps.

With Super Mario 3D All-Stars being announced for the Switch, it only makes sense that the original All-Stars collection was brought to Nintendo’s current system – and unlike the 3D All-Stars, this version will be available for more than just 6 months.

Back in March, we first began hearing rumours that Nintendo was planning a series of Super Mario remasters and re-releases for the Nintendo Switch in order to celebrate the character's 35th anniversary. Those plans were confirmed today, with Nintendo dropping a surprise Super Mario-focused direct this afternoon.

The biggest piece of news here is the announcement of Super Mario 3D All-Stars. This collection launches on the 18th of September and contains remasters for Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy.

Oddly though, this collection will only be sold for a limited time, with Nintendo announcing a limited run for both physical and digital versions of the game. Physical copies of 3D All-Stars will run until March 2021, while the digital version will be removed from sale in April 2021. Whether or not the games could return after that date remains to be seen.

The other major announcements include Super Mario 3D World and Bowser's Fury for the Nintendo Switch, arriving on the 12th of February 2021. Finally, on October 1st, Nintendo is releasing Super Mario Bros. 35, a ‘battle royale' take on classic 2D Mario platforming, exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.

KitGuru Says: Making this remaster collection a limited-time game is an odd move, but hopefully the games will re-appear individually after that date instead. What did you all think of Nintendo's Mario 35th Anniversary Direct today?
