Update: This competition is now CLOSED. Our winner this time around is Darren Monger from Facebook! The winner has been contacted and prize shipment is now being organised. If you missed out this time around, then keep an eye out as we regularly run new giveaways.

AOC marked Pancake Day with a gaming charity event to raise money for The RockinR, and SpecialEffect. But if you weren't able to attend, we've teamed up to help support the cause by giving away an AOC Agon QHD/240Hz gaming monitor!

AOC's physical Pancake Day event happened on the 13th of February in Shoreditch, complete with a Mario Kart tournament and a prize raffle. Our gaming monitor giveaway will be running for a bit longer than that though, so you will have plenty of time to enter.

TheRockinR is a small national charity which provides interactive Medical Gaming Carts to sick children and young people in hospitals throughout the United Kingdom & Ireland. SpecialEffect also works with gamers, pushing for accessibility in gaming and helping to develop specialised controllers for those with disabilities to bring the joy of gaming to all.

Our prize for this giveaway is the AOC Agon AG325QZN/EU gaming monitor. It is a 32-inch gaming monitor, with low response times, support for HDR and Adaptive Sync and most importantly, a 240Hz refresh rate for ultra-smooth gaming.

How to enter:

Entering this competition is simple, all you have to do is head over to our entry posts on Facebook or Twitter (or both!). In the comments of the post, answer the following question: What is the first game you'd fire up on this new monitor?

Be sure to check out AOC's charity Pancake Day charity event, HERE, while any donations made to the event's Just Giving campaign that add the message ‘PANCAKEKIT‘ will be in with a chance of winning an Agon by AOC hoodie as well!

Terms and Conditions: This competition is open in the UK and EU, starting at 11AM GMT on February 9th and ending on February 29th at 23:59PM GMT. The winner will need to supply their name and address for shipping purposes. In keeping with GDPR guidelines, this information will not be saved and will be deleted from our email servers once the prize has been delivered. A winner will be picked and announced within 14 days of the competition closing.

KitGuru Says: Good luck to everyone entering and consider donating! We'll be back in early March to announce the winner.

Back in 2020, AOC and Porsche Design extended their partnership beyond office monitors and into high-end gaming displays. This week, the pair revealed their latest creation – the Porsche Design AOC Agon Pro PD27S, which packs 1440p at up to 170Hz, 1ms response time and HDR in a stylish package.

The exclusive design of the PD27S is coupled with a high-grade IPS panel, with 10-bit colour and coverage of 95% of the DCI-P3 and 99% of the sRGB colour gamuts. The monitor is also DisplayHDR 400 certified, so you can watch HDR content, or turn on HDR in supported games. The panel has a 165Hz native refresh rate, but you can overclock it to 170Hz.

Like the previously released PD32M, the new PD27S has a functional design, with a sandblasted aluminium cast stand to keep the display sturdy, while also offering height, swivel and tilt adjustments. On the back of the monitor you'll find RGB lighting, which you can customise to add some ambience to your gaming setup, or you can switch it off if preferred.

The PD27S is not only a gaming monitor, but a high-end all-rounder. Equipped with a 4-port USB 3.2 hub, external devices such as keyboards, mice or external drives can be connected quickly and easily, reducing cable clutter and giving every desk a clean and functional layout. If you don't have your own speakers, or headphones, then you'll be able to rely on the monitor's dual 5W speakers with DTS audio.

The Porsche Design AOC AGON PRO PD27S is available now, priced at £440.

KitGuru Says: What do you think of the latest collab between Porsche Design and AOC? Would you consider this monitor for your setup?

Let's take things to the next level with this 49in, 32:9 monitor

The post AOC AGON AG493UCX 49in Monitor Review first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Ultrawide monitors are becoming increasingly popular, with more and more manufacturers releasing 21:9 screens with high quality panels and ever-increasing refresh rates. But what if 21:9 just isn't enough for you? That's where the AOC AGON AG493UCX comes in. With a resolution of 5120×1440, this screen offers a 32:9 aspect ratio and a panel size of 49 inches, so it is certainly not for the faint of heart. What's it like to use, and is it any good? Let's find out.

I've been using 21:9 screens for the last year or so, which already makes me a fairly late convert to the trend of ultrawide screens. The AOC AGON AG493UCX really does take things to the next level however, offering almost 50% more horizontal pixels than your typical 3440×1440 monitor. In fact, the 5120×1440 resolution over the 49 inch panel size gives an experience which is roughly equivalent to two 27in QHD (2560×1440) screens side by side.

The form-factor isn't the only thing of interest though. The AG493UCX also promises the high levels of contrast you'd expect from a VA panel, while it's also outfitted with a 120Hz refresh rate and VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification. Priced at £899 here in the UK, we find out whether or not this screen is worth buying.

Specification:

Update: It appears that some of the information displayed on AOC's website earlier this week was incorrect. This particular monitor does NOT offer 1440p resolution. It is a 1080p panel with a 240Hz refresh rate. The title has been amended to reflect this and previous mentions of 1440p have been removed. We apologise for the confusion caused.

Original Story: Usually when you set out to buy a new monitor, you are stuck with the same maximum refresh rate across all resolutions. Your 60Hz display isn't suddenly going to push 120Hz if you lower the resolution. However, it looks like this could start changing soon as AOC has just announced its latest AGON gaming monitor, which lets you switch between higher resolution or higher refresh rates depending on preference.

The AOC AGON AG251FG houses a native 1080p panel with a maximum refresh rate of 240Hz.

Aside from that, this monitor also features G-Sync, so you do away with screen tearing and have a smoother experience overall. The panel in use here measures in at 24.5-inches with a peak brightness of 400 cd/m2, a dynamic contrast ratio of 50m:1 and a 1ms response time.

Here is a more general breakdown of the display:

 • Display 24.5″ TN @ 240 Hz.
 • Resolution 1920×1080 pixels.
 • Sync technology: G-SYNC.
 • Signal input: 1 x HDMI, 1 x DisplayPort, 4 x USB 3.0.
 • Audio out.
 • Microphone in/out.
 • Special features: Ergonomic stand, NVIDIA ULMB mode.
 • Stereo speakers.
 • 1ms response time.

This particular monitor is set to begin shipping out in August this year with an MSRP of £519.

Probably. Is it expensive for a 1080p TN monitor? Definitely.

The post AOC AGON AG251FZ 240Hz FreeSync Monitor Review first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
When it comes to gaming, speed matters. In other words, most gamers would agree that a faster PC monitor is a better PC monitor. But is there a limit to that seemingly simple principle, a point at which adding speed eventually degenerates into diminishing returns?

That’s effectively the question AOC is posing with the AGON AG251FZ, a new LCD monitor that socks it to the gaming competition with 240Hz refresh capability. Granted, it’s not the first such monitor to hit the market. But 240Hz remains novel. It’s only been over the last 18 months or so that 120Hz-plus capability of any kind has become relatively common.

The headline refresh figure aside, the AG251FZ nails several other gaming-friendly features to its mast. For starters, there’s 1ms pixel response. You also get support for AMD’s frame-syncing and motion-smoothing FreeSync technology. Finally, AOC has added a low input lag mode to further enhance the AG251FZ’s gaming cred.

It all comes wrapped in a taut 25-inch package based on a TN LCD panel. Given the response and refresh specs, the use of TN technology (the fastest of the three main panel types) is inevitable. The potential head scratcher, however, is the modest 1080p or 1,920 by 1,080 pixel grid.

But consider this. Higher refresh rates demand greater GPU power. It’s doubtful whether the quickest current GPUs, including even Nvidia’s new Titan Xp monster, could drive the latest and most graphically demanding games at 200-plus frames per second at 1440p with the image quality options maxed out, let alone at 4K. If you’re going to have that 240Hz capability, there’s definitely logic in limiting the native resolution to 1080p.

That said, the question remains of whether the subjective experience of 240Hz is noticeably superior to, say, 144Hz, be that in games or on the desktop. If it isn’t and with the AG251FZ’s fairly punchy price point in mind, a quickish 1440p panel might be the better all-round proposition. Time to find out.

AOC has been fleshing out its new AGON series of gaming monitors all year long. Just last month, a brand new Ultra-Wide monitor was added to the lineup, which traded in resolution for a higher 200Hz refresh rate. This month things are a little different, with the AGON AG251FZ bringing things back down to standard 1080p, but pushing the boundaries further with a 240Hz refresh rate, the fastest yet.

Right now, there are only a handful of monitors around that can hit 240Hz, so this is quite an achievement. As for the other specs, this is a 1920×1080 25-inch display with AMD's FreeSync technology, which will allow your GPU to control your monitor's refresh rate. It also has a 1ms Grey-to-Grey response time, making it ultra-responsive for gaming.

Here are the full specifications:

 • Model: AG251FZ
 • Display: 25″ TN at 240 Hz
 • Resolution: 1920×1080
 • Sync technology: Adaptive Sync/FreeSync
 • Signal input: 1x VGA, 1x DVI, 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.2, 4 x USB 3.0
 • Audio out/in
 • Microphone in/out
 • Height-adjustable ergonomic stand
 • Built in Speakers
 • 1 ms GtG response time

The stand features height adjustment and tilt. The screen itself features flicker-free technology and a low blue light mode, which can reduce any strain on the eyes should you need it. You won't be able to get your hands on this monitor for a while though, with a release date scheduled for January 2017. Perhaps we will see it on display at CES. Either way, when it does arrive it will apparently cost £449.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: As much as I like to see these new higher refresh rates on monitors, I don't think I could personally stomach spending almost £500 on a 1080p monitor these days. Especially after seeing some 144Hz/1440p monitors dipping below the £500 mark in the last 18 months. Still though, if you demand the highest refresh rates and don't mind sticking to 1080p, then this might be right up your alley.

AOC has been working on expanding its gaming monitor range all year long with its new AGON series. Today, the latest addition to the lineup was announced- the AG352QCX, delivering a curved 35-inch panel running at an Ultra-Wide 21:9 resolution with a 200Hz refresh rate.

AOC's latest gaming offering features a 2000R curvature, which is said to widely extend field of view and enhance the user's perception of depth, creating a more immersive gaming experience. On top of that, motion blur will be a thing of the past thanks to the super quick 200Hz refresh rate, which comes equipped with adaptive sync technology.

pic-1

Unfortunately, we can't have it all and in order to achieve such a massive refresh rate, some resolution did need to be sacrificed. This 35-inch ultra-wide does sport a 2560×1080 resolution, rather than a preferred 3440×1440 resolution. That said, this VA panel does support 100 percent of the sRGB colour gamut with a 4ms grey to grey response time, so there is still plenty of value to be found in this monitor.

It will be a few weeks before you can get your hands on it though, as the AOC AGON AG352QCX isn't due to hit store shelves until December. When it does arrive, it will be slapped with a £699 price tag.

KitGuru Says: For many, 35-inches might be too much for a 1080p resolution. However, for those who want as high a refresh rate as possible, this could end up being a good option, though there are several other 200+Hz monitors floating around at the moment. What do you guys make of this monitor? Would you rather have a higher resolution ultra-wide with a lower refresh rate?

The AGON AG271QG is a 2560×1440 IPS monitor featuring an ultra-fast 165Hz refresh rate, eliminating motion blur, screen tearing and display stutter with the addition of G-Sync.

AG271_front_to_right_design

You can find the general specifications for this monitor below:

 • Monitor Size: 27 Inch
 • Screen Format: 16:9
 • Brightness: 350 cd/m2 (type)
 • Contrast Ratio: 1000:1
 • Dynamic Contrast Ratio: 50M:1
 • Viewing Angle: 178/178
 • Response time: 4 ms
 • Maximum Resolution: 2560×1440@165Hz

Being an updated G-Sync monitor, this also supports HDMI output in addition to DisplayPort. The stand also has height adjustment and pivot, no swivel though which is a shame. The monitor will hit stores next month for £639.99 in the UK.

KitGuru Says: IPS gaming monitors have come a long way in the last couple of years, achieving ultra-high refresh rates and lower response times than ever before. Are any of you in the market for a new monitor? Are you thinking about going with a high refresh rate 1440p panel?
