While we may be past the peak of the battle royale zeitgeist, Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends continues to go strong, with the free-to-play title set to see its 19th Season go live on the 31st of October. Alongside the many expected additions set to arrive with Apex Legends: Ignite, the team revealed that the game will finally get cross-progression upon the launch of the new season.

Making the announcement on their blog, Respawn Entertainment said “With the launch of Season 19, we’re excited to roll out Cross Progression in a phased deployment across existing platforms in Apex Legends. Keep an eye out for an in-game prompt to initiate the Cross Progression migration which will bring together your content and progression.”

Having been a long time coming, it is exciting to see that Apex Legends will finally be getting cross-progression. That said, it is worth noting that there are some limitations to the migration – especially with regards to cosmetics and in-game currencies, namely:

  • PS+ cosmetics are limited to PlayStation
  • Xbox Gold and Founder Edition cosmetics are limited to Xbox
  • The P.A.T.H. Legendary Skin is limited to Nintendo
  • Apex coins purchased on Nintendo’s platform remain exclusive to the console (PC, Xbox and PlayStation meanwhile will share a single wallet)

The full list of limitations can be found HERE, but even with these stipulations in place, it is exciting nonetheless to see that Apex Legends players will finally be able to share their overall progression across any and all platforms – even if it did take nearly 5 years to happen.

Respawn Entertainment hit it big with Apex Legends when the Titanfall spin-off Battle Royale launched in early 2019 – amassing an audience of well over 100 million players. The success of the free-to-play game has allowed for Respawn Entertainment to grow, with them announcing the opening of their 3rd studio; created to keep Apex Legends alive for “10, 15 years or more.”

As part of a lengthy interview conducted by Gamesindustry.biz, it was announced that Respawn Entertainment has opened their third studio, this one located in Madison, Wisconsin. The studio is being headed by Ryan Burnett, who spent 14 years working at Raven Software (one of the biggest support studios for Call of Duty).

Apex Legends has maintained a consistent output of content, with a new Season releasing every 3 months or so. The opening of this 3rd studio will assist in ensuring that this pace continues into the future.

Speaking of the future, it seems EA and Respawn have big plans for Apex Legends, with the team looking and planning far ahead – not just years but decades, with the game’s director Steven Ferreira saying:

“Team health is absolutely a top priority for us because we're in this for the long haul. We believe in Apex as a franchise that's going to be around for 10, 15 years or more and we're excited to make that happen. In order to do that, we can't just put everything all upfront, burn ourselves out and not be ready to do that in the long haul.”

Four years on from launch and Apex Legends seems to be stronger than ever. Whether the game will be able to remain so for the next decade and a half is unknown, but it is good to see that the team are being given the support they need to not only maintain their current success, but to hopefully grow it further.

Apex Legends is celebrating its 4th anniversary this month and to mark the occasion, EA and Respawn have just unveiled the game's biggest update ever. Apex Legends: Revelry is now rolling out to all platforms, making changes and updates to virtually every aspect of the game.

The Revelry update includes an expanded new player experience, a complete rebalancing of the Legends roster, a new class system and of course, Team Deathmatch is also finally arriving in-game.

“Respawn’s philosophy on Apex Legends has always been about delivering that exciting moment-to-moment competitive FPS action that simply feels great for players,” said Steven Ferreira, Game Director, Apex Legends. “The 4th anniversary and launch of Revelry is an exciting next chapter in Apex Legends, setting up a new era with sweeping meta changes for the community that has been playing for years while providing new players the best entry point to drop into the Apex Games yet.”

As part of Revelry, Apex Legends will remaster its Legend Class system, dividing the roster of 23 Legends into new roles including Assault, Skirmisher, Recon, Controller and Support, each with their own special perks to make each class feel more impactful in a match. A new player experience through the Orientation Match system will provide those new to the Apex Games the ability to learn core mechanics through matches featuring bots and other new players.

Apex Legends is available for free across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC. The Revelry update is now live and rolling out to all players.

This week, EA reportedly cancelled a new single-player Titanfall game, which Respawn has been rumoured to be working on for quite some time. As it turns out, this particular title wasn't going to be the Titanfall 3 we were hoping for, instead leaning more into the Apex Legends side of things while mixing in some of the elements that players loved about the Titanfall games.

According to Jeff Grubb on Giant Bomb, the cancelled game was going to turn Apex Legends into a ‘platform', where the multiplayer game coexists next to single-player experiences, similarly to how Call of Duty handles its yearly campaigns and Warzone.

The game, which was reportedly known internally as Titanfall Legends, was always planned to tie heavily into Apex Legends. Apparently, the game would have featured players taking on the role of Rampart, an Apex character. As Rampart, you would come across BT from Titanfall 2, and you would spend the campaign upgrading BT to take on bigger challenges as the story progressed.

Mechanics like wall running, and the Titans themselves would have returned here, with Apex Legends characters popping up throughout the story.

It is an idea that would have capitalised on the popularity of Apex Legends, but ultimately it wasn't meant to be. Perhaps Respawn will attempt this idea again some day, but for now, it looks like there won't be new Titanfall content anytime soon.

KitGuru Says: Given that Titanfall and Apex Legends share a universe theoretically, the two games are very different from each other, so meshing them might be a tough task. Our fingers remain crossed for a new Titanfall game in the future.

Apex Legends Mobile has only been around for a short while and Battlefield Mobile only just recently began public testing. In a surprise move, it looks like EA has pulled the plug on both projects and it also appears to be shutting down one of its mobile development studios.

Last night, EA announced that it is shutting down Apex Legends Mobile, in part due to struggles in delivering post-launch content. The publisher acknowledges that the game got off to a “strong start”, but the post-release content pipeline has “begun to fall short” in terms of “quality, quantity and cadence”.

It is worth noting that Respawn wasn't working on Apex Legends Mobile, instead, the bulk of the development work was contracted out to Lightspeed and Quantum Studios, which previously found success working on PUBG Mobile. Apex Legends Mobile will officially shut down on the 1st of May.

As for Battlefield Mobile, the publisher seemed to have high hopes for it, but following on from beta tests in late 2022, the publisher has decided to “pivot from the current direction” and as a result, the game is being scrapped. The studio behind it, Industrial Toys, is also shutting down.

KitGuru Says: It would seem that EA is scaling back on its plans for ‘AAA' mobile games. For whatever reason, Apex Legends Mobile couldn't keep up with tough competition from the likes of Fortnite Mobile, PUBG Mobile and other big name shooters. As for Battlefield Mobile, that game won't be seen through to launch. Did any of you try Battlefield Mobile in beta, or Apex Legends Mobile? What did you make of those games?

At this point, it seems pretty clear that Respawn has moved on from Titanfall, with the studio's main priority now being Apex Legends. We may see some of that Titanfall formula return though, as Respawn has begun hiring for a new single-player shooter.

While initially Apex Legends was set in the Titanfall universe, it seems Apex is now its own standalone IP. In new job listings (via Dexerto), Respawn reveals it is working on an “Apex Universe FPS incubation project”, which will be a new single-player shooter from the studio.

As this is an incubation project, the team will be small and there will be plenty of prototyping. With that in mind, there isn't a guarantee that this game makes it all the way to release. It is also worth noting that if the project does get pushed through, then it will take a few years to actually make.

Previous reports about a single-player Respawn FPS have hinted at a game with similar mobility and overall style to Titanfall, but not a direct sequel. With these job listings pointing towards an Apex game, it seems like a safe bet that we won't see any titans.

KitGuru Says: Apex Legends is by far the bigger IP at this point, so investing further in that makes sense. Still, it is a huge shame to see Titanfall dropped after the excellent Titanfall 2 campaign.

Apex Legends launched in a surprise manner back in early 2019 as a fresh take on the battle royale genre, offering a third prong in the Fortnite / PUBG duopoly present at the time. This helped the game carve a significant chunk of the market for itself, now having made a total of $2 Billion.

During EA’s most recent fiscal earnings call, the publisher’s CFO, Chris Suh, revealed that the battle royale shooter has made $2 Billion in revenue since its surprise launch on the 4th of february 2019.

As reported by dotesports, Apex Legends has seen significant growth in recent months, with Suh stating that the game has seen its revenue increase by 40% when compared to the previous year. Additionally, the game’s recent 12th in-game season was reportedly Apex’s “most successful ever” – presumably in terms of the number of passes they sold.

While it may be true that other free-to-play games have made more money in much less time, Apex Legends’ success should not be understated – especially as the studio responsible for the game (Respawn Entertainment) have been unlucky in the past when it comes to finding an audience for their high quality titles.

With Respawn Entertainment currently testing a mobile port of Apex Legends, and the console release continuing to see consistent support, EA executives expect Apex Legends to eventually be making more than a Billion Dollars every single year. We will have to wait and see whether this will indeed happen.

It has been three years since Respawn Entertainment first talked about bringing Apex Legends to mobile. Now, six weeks on from the game's soft-launch in select regions, Apex Legends Mobile will be releasing worldwide this month.

Apex Legends Mobile Design Director, Jordan Patz, revealed the early release during a developer panel, as reported by VGC. Previously, Respawn said that the mobile version would release worldwide ‘this summer‘, but it seems things have been sped along a little.

Just like the PC and console version of the game, Apex Legends Mobile will be free to play and offer a battle pass and other cosmetics. The game itself is developed between Respawn and Lightspeed & Quantum Studios, the same company that co-developed PUBG Mobile.

The mobile version will have some exclusive content not available on the console and PC versions of the game, although the full specifics have yet to be revealed. We can expect an official announcement from Respawn imminently with a launch date, so we should have more information soon.

Apex Legends has been playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles since launch through backwards compatibility. In January, we learned that a proper ‘next gen' version would be on the way. Now, Respawn has announced plans to launch bespoke PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Apex Legends today.

The new PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Apex Legends will offer five key improvements – native 4K resolution, locked 60Hz gameplay, HDR, improved shadows and improved LOD distances. The Xbox Series S version will fall behind in a few of these areas, for instance, the Series S version won't run at 4K, or offer higher resolution shadows and improved LOD.

While previous rumours indicated that Apex Legends on next-gen consoles would get a 120FPS mode, Respawn has not announced this at the moment. This is an odd choice, as the Xbox Series X and PS5 should both be capable of running Apex Legends at high frame rates at 1080p or 1440p.

On Xbox Series X/S consoles, the new version of Apex Legends will download automatically through Smart Delivery. On PS5, users will need to download the PS5 version manually.

KitGuru Says: While we have yet to test the update out, the lack of 120FPS mode is quite disappointing. We've seen impressive 120Hz performance in a number of key games this generation, including other major shooters like Overwatch, Call of Duty, Halo Infinite and more, so it should be achievable here.

It has been three years since Respawn Entertainment first talked about bringing Apex Legends to mobile. Just recently, Apex Legends Mobile officially soft-launched, allowing players in select countries to download and play the game. It'll be a while longer before the game is available globally though, with Respawn aiming for a full launch in the Summer.

Currently, Apex Legends Mobile is open for pre-registration in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, and Colombia. Play tests are taking place on Android, in part due to it being easier to host large-scale playable betas on Android, compared to iOS and Apple's Test Flight program.

Respawn Entertainment is now aiming for a full launch for Apex Legends Mobile “this summer”, with a little help from Tencent's teams at Lightspeed & Quantum Studios.

Just like the PC and console versions, Apex Legends Mobile will be free to play, offering a full battle royale experience, with monetisation primarily coming through the seasonal battle pass.

Almost 3 years ago we reported that Respawn Entertainment had announced that they would be bringing Apex Legends to iOS and Android devices. Since then, we have seen the entire battle royale landscape change and evolve. Finally however, Apex Legends is coming to iOS and Android next week – at least in some countries.

A few weeks ago, Respawn Entertainment announced that Apex Legends was available to pre-register on the Google Play Store in 10 countries. More details, including information on the as-of-yet-unseen iOS version was promised to be coming at a later date. That time is now, as the team took to their blog to say:

“We know you have been waiting for updates on Apex Legends Mobile ever since we conducted our closed beta tests last year. We’re excited to announce that Apex Legends Mobile will enter the next major development milestone: a limited regional launch starting next week and expected to run throughout the Spring. This next phase will see Apex Legends Mobile go into limited release in 10 countries so we can continue our work on in-game systems, features, and more prior to launch!”

The 10 countries listed are: Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, and Colombia and will include support for both Android and iOS across all of these regions.

For further information, including the minimum specs required to run the game and an FAQ, click HERE. Since its launch, Apex Legends has continued to improve, adapt and evolve – becoming one of the premiere BR experiences. If they can translate that experience to mobile, then Respawn may have yet another hit on their hands.

We've known Apex Legends is coming to mobile platforms for almost a year, but a specific release date has yet to be announced. However, it shouldn't take long, as Respawn is about to soft launch the mobile title in selected countries.

According to Respawn, Apex Legends is soft-launching for Android devices first in Argentina, Columbia, Mexico, Peru, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, with more countries receiving it soon. Unfortunately, iOS users will have to wait a little longer before getting a chance to play the game.

Respawn has been conducting multiple beta tests in different countries, including India and the Philippines. Similar to other mobile games, Apex Legends mobile has been designed from the ground up for touchscreens, with carefully thought controls to ensure the best possible mobile gaming experience.

Pre-registrations are already open in these countries, so if you live in one of them (or know how to use a VPN), you can do it now via the Google Play Store. Like the PC version, the mobile title will be free-to-play and won't feature any paid items that give you an advantage over others.

KitGuru says: With the soft launch in sight, it shouldn't take long before Respawn launches the game worldwide. Are you a fan of Apex Legends? Do you plan on trying the mobile version?

While backwards compatibility has ensured a smooth transition between console generations, with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S being able to play many older titles with new-gen improvements, nothing can replace a bespoke version crafted for these new systems. In the case of Apex Legends, it’s looking as though those with a Series X|S or PS5 are in for a treat.

As reported by PlayStation Game Size (a Twitter account dedicated to going through the PlayStation database to uncover new information), Apex Legends is going to be getting a bespoke PlayStation 5 version, landing at around 80GB. For comparison, the current PS4 version of the game takes up just shy of 70GB – and so unlike many PS5 releases, it looks as though the next-gen version will be bigger in size.

Offering additional information regarding what current-gen players can expect with this new version, industry analyst ‘MauroNL’ claimed that “Apex Legends native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions should be out real soon. Includes boosted resolution, higher graphic fidelity and a 120fps mode.”

For a competitive battle royale game, all three of these improvements should make a marked difference, allowing players to spot enemies from further, react faster, and – hopefully – get the kill.

All three of these features could in theory be added to the older versions of the game without the need for a bespoke SKU, and so it will be interesting to see what else is being improved – be it loading times, 3D audio, or something else. Regardless, it is exciting to see Apex Legends getting a PS5 and Series X|S version. Hopefully Call of Duty Warzone is next.

Respawn Entertainment has quickly gone from being one of EA’s most underappreciated studios, to becoming one of their most valued developers. After creating the Titanfall franchise, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Apex Legends, the studio is said to be working on a new game set in a “unique universe.”

Respawn Entertainment began its life in 2010, after the leads of Call of Duty’s Infinity Ward Jason West and Vince Zampella were fired from the studio. This then led to the development of Respawn Entertainment.

Partnering with EA, the studio released Titanfall 1 and 2, after which the publisher acquired the studio. Since then, the team has worked on a variety of games, including the successful Battle Royale game Apex Legends (set in the same universe as Titanfall), Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and most recently the VR title ‘Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond.’

As reported by alphaINTEL, Respawn Entertainment have now confirmed that they are working on a “brand new single player game,” set in a “unique universe”. Currently, this is all that has been revealed, though the studio’s past may help reveal some clues.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has surpassed 20 million players since its release in later 2019, with the team already confirming a sequel is on the way. Likewise, the studio also continues to work on Apex Legends, which is about to start its 10th season next month. As this game is said to be set in a unique universe, it is safe to assume the studio is neither referring to these nor Titanfall 3.

What game the studio is referring to is currently unknown, though it would be exciting to see Respawn working on its second original IP. Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long to find out.

KitGuru says: What do you think the team is working on? What genre do you think it will be? Would you like to see them make their own new IP? Let us know down below.

When Apex Legends launched in 2019, one of its most notable innovations to the battle royale genre was the ping system, which allowed players to dynamically tag all manner of things, from players to items to weapons. Since then, other games have taken inspiration, including 343i who have revealed that their upcoming Halo: Infinite will utilise a similar feature.

The team at 343 Industries have been slowly drip feeding fans information on what they can expect from Halo: Infinite when the game launches later this year. The latest piece of information pertains to what the team describes as a ‘mark system’.

In the most recent monthly employee spotlight issue, 343i highlighted Andrew Witts, the Lead Multiplayer Designer for Halo: Infinite. One of the details extracted from this featurette was the reveal of Halo: Infinite’s new mark system, which was described by Witts as “a feature where players can mark a spot in the world that lets their teammates know vital information, like an enemy position or weapon location.”

While no concrete details have been given so far as to how many players Halo: Infinite will support, the common sentiment is that matches could host up to 60 players – which would require bigger maps to support such player counts.

If this is indeed true, then a ping system – or in 343i’s words, a mark system – would be a welcome feature, allowing players to tag allies, enemies, weapons and more.

While the first look at Halo: Infinite proved to be disappointing, subsequent showings – and all of the details since – seems to suggest that Halo: Infinite may be one of the biggest jumps in features seen by the series since the very first game. Time will tell whether this pans out.

Yesterday, Apex Legends was targeted by a hacker who had successfully hijacked the servers, making the game unplayable for some. As it seems, this hack was a form of protesting the current state of Titanfall 1, which is suffering from issues with cheaters.

This past Sunday, those interested in playing an Apex Legends match were surprised by their inability to access the game modes' playlist due to a cyberattack. Moreover, players were also bothered by a pop-up message asking them to visit savetitanfall.com.

Once a match was completed, PC, Xbox and PS4 players couldn't queue again. To queue into a new match, players had to restart and be lucky enough to skip the pop-up messages and be allowed to select the game mode they wished to play.

For those who are unaware, savetitanfall.com is a website that has been created in protest of the hacker issues plaguing the original Titanfall. For a long time, players have been unable to finish games due to a group of hackers that have been ending games prematurely and filling them with bots. Despite repeated call-outs from the community, Respawn Entertainment has done little to fix the situation.

The creator behind the Save Titanfall website has said they are “in no way associated with the recent Apex Legends hack”. Respawn has been able to fix queuing in Apex Legends.

Apex Legends' new 3v3 Arena mode has been live since early May and during that time, Respawn has been monitoring feedback for balancing and other additions. One major change coming to the mode is a new penalty system to lessen the number of people abandoning matches.

Penalties for abandoning an Arena match will be the same as Apex Legends' main battle royale mode. If you start a game in a full squad and want to leave the game, you'll get a warning screen for the incoming penalty. If the user does than abandon the match, they'll be stuck on a 10-minute cooldown before being able to play again. This only applies to the first squad member abandoning a game, so the remaining two players on the squad can disconnect freely and forfeit the match.

This isn't the only change coming with this week's patch. There are also a bunch of balancing updates, including better loot distribution, restoring the slow down effect on Wattson's fences, fixing an exploit that allowed users to unlock upgrades without having enough materials to craft them and some changes made to Valkyrie.

All of these changes are live on Apex Legends as of last night. The full patch notes can be found HERE.

Season passes are becoming the standard for every online game, but since its inception, most of them have followed the same logic. Generally speaking, all season passes demand that gamers have to grind for what they want, but EA might be about to change that according to its latest patent. As it seems, the company is preparing a battle pass system where players choose their rewards instead of grinding to a specific tier to get what they want.

The patent was filed on May 13th and is titled “Seasonal Reward Distribution System.” In the patent, EA describes a new system that will “provide users with a non-linear map that allows the users to choose how to progress through the reward map when advancing or levelling up a virtual character or user account within the video game.” This new system features a virtual map with multiple non-linear paths with different types of rewards to choose from.

According to EA's description, it seems that players can choose a reward track that focuses more on giving cosmetics, or one that's more emote-centric, or even another that gives you more resources. Anyway, don't expect to have complete freedom to choose what you want.

The patent also mentions a second tier of rewards that seems locked behind a premium season pass. Users that buy the premium pass will unlock both the standard and premium tier rewards of the reward track they choose.

KitGuru says: It's still unknown which games will feature this new type of season pass. However, no matter which game it will be featured in, players will most likely be pleased with its introduction.

It looks like Respawn is cooking up another brand new IP. The studio recently put up some new job listings, revealing plans for a completely new game not connected to Titanfall or Star Wars.

We first caught wind of this via Vince Zampella himself, who tweeted out about an “exciting new opportunity” for a “new Respawn project”. Diving into the job listings reveals that the team is planning a “new IP from scratch”, unlike Apex Legends, which was based on Titanfall and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, which is obviously a licensed game.

Titanfall_2_WM_A-e1480685927260.jpg

The job itself (via PCGamer) is for an Incubation Team Software Engineer, who will “pioneer new ways to enable adventuring until the heat death of the universe” … whatever that means.

Aside from this new IP, we know that Respawn is making a sequel to Jedi Fallen Order, as well as continuing work on Apex Legends. The studio also recently brought back the Medal of Honour IP with a VR game.

Just under two years after it was first announced that Apex Legends would eventually make its way to mobile, the first-person battle royale game is finally here – almost. The “specially designed for touchscreens” shooter will be entering beta this Spring, with a full release later on.

Making the announcement, the game director of Apex Legends Chad Grenier said “Beginning later this month, we're kicking off the first regional beta tests for Apex Legends Mobile. This is a huge moment for our team. Two years ago we changed the landscape of the battle royale genre, and now we’re aiming to do it again on mobile.”

According to Grenier, this version of the popular battle royale shooter has been “designed for touchscreens, with streamlined controls and thoughtful optimizations that result in the most advanced battle royale combat available on a phone.”

Described as “true to the original,” Apex Legends Mobile will not feature cross play with PC or consoles, as this game is its own bespoke version. That being said, this mobile version has been developed by Respawn and so should feel familiar to PC and console players.

Apex Legends Mobile will launch with a regional beta this Spring in India and the Philippines, before expanding outward to other regions at a later date. The full blog post can be found HERE.

Since its surprise launch in February 2019, Apex Legends has become one of the major players in the free-to-play Battle Royale genre of games. Though growth has slowed down substantially, EA reported that Apex Legends has now officially surpassed 100 million players.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the Apex Legends team said “100 million strong, and we're just getting started. Thank you, Legends!” revealing that the free-to-play title now boasts over 100 million players just over 2 years after its launch.

Apex Legends launched on the 4th of February 2019 to rapid success, amassing over 25 million players within its first week. By October of that same year, Apex Legends boasted over 70 million players. While 100 million is a major milestone, it is interesting to see only 30 million more players added in the past year and a half – especially with the game coming to new platforms during this time.

For comparison's sake, Fortnite, which was released in September of 2017, currently sits at 350 million players – though the game is available on many more platforms than Apex Legends. One of the other major competitors is Call of Duty: Warzone, which only launched in March of last year. Despite this, the game already has 85 million players while being on fewer platforms than both Fortnite and Apex Legends.

Apex Legends is currently on its 8th season, and with the team “just getting started” it will be interesting to see what they have planned for the future of Apex Legends.

While Respawn was rumoured to be working on Titanfall 3 a few years ago, plans changed when Apex Legends released and became an immediate success. The game is continuing to do well in its eighth season but those who miss Titanfall will want to keep an eye on the game’s Season 9 content drops.

Apex Legends will be adding “a ton” of Titanfall content in its next season. The two games already share a universe, although you wouldn’t necessarily be able to tell at the surface level. However, speaking during a recent panel, Senior Writer, Ashley Reed, noted that the games are still connected very closely”.

As reported by PCGamer, following Reed’s comment, Apex Legends Game Director, Chad Grenier, chimed in, adding: “Next season, Season 9, you're actually going to see a ton of Titanfall coming back into the game in one way or another. So, I've told some people before, if you're a Titanfall fan hang on for Season 9”.

Unfortunately, actual Titans will not be making an appearance, so we’ll be seeing other characters. Perhaps at some point we’ll have a lore reason as to why Titans aren’t around, after all, Apex Legends does take place after the big war shown in Titanfall and Titanfall 2.

The Nintendo Switch continues to surprise many people with the number of different modern games which it is capable of running. From DOOM Eternal to The Witcher III, the Switch seems to keep releasing “impossible ports”. Of course, many compromises have to be made in the process, as can be seen with the upcoming release of Apex Legends – the technical details of which have now been revealed.

As reported by Famitsu, and translated by NintendoEverything, Apex Legends on the Switch will run at 720p and 30fps when in docked mode, and will see the resolution drop to 576p when in handheld mode. These resolutions are not uncommon to see on the Switch, but of course, with PS5 and Series X games running at 4K and 60fps, the visual and performance downgrade may be too great for some – even if it can be played portably.

In an interview with Nintendo Life, the porting team at Panic Button revealed that aside from resolution and framerate, little else is changed, saying “everything that’s there on other versions of the game should be there on Switch. I think the big challenge for us is always coming in and understanding what parts of the game that we can adapt and make changes to and optimize and what parts are so essential that we need to leave alone. I think ultimately the changes we had to make are not going to impact players' experience with it. It’s still a great experience and it feels like playing Apex!”

Apex Legends on Switch does come with one neat feature: gyro aiming, which should hopefully help with the 30fps frame rate somewhat. Apex Legends launches on the Nintendo Switch today.

Back in June 2020, EA announced that the popular Battle Royale shooter Apex Legends would be coming to the Nintendo Switch. Though the game may have taken longer to arrive than anticipated, Switch players will soon finally be able to take part in battling for victory when Apex Legends drops onto the Switch in March.

Making the announcement on its blog, the Game Director of Apex Legends, Chad Grenier, revealed that “Apex Legends is coming to Nintendo Switch on March 9th, 2021.”

Panic Button, the porting studio behind Switch releases such as DOOM and Wolfenstein, aided with this most recent conversion, with Grenier saying “porting Apex Legends to its smallest screen yet is a major achievement, and we couldn’t have done it without our friends at Panic Button. We’re very proud of what the team has been able to achieve with some smart optimizations for the Switch port to deliver a full-featured Apex Legends experience on the go.”

Though no specific technical detailed were provided, Grenier confirmed that “Apex Legends will launch on Switch with support for cross-platform play, our latest seasonal content, and full feature parity with the other versions of the game” meaning that aside from perhaps a resolution drop (or a decrease in frame rate) Switch players will be getting the full fat experience.

The Game Director concluded by saying “we can’t wait to welcome Switch players to the arena. Keep an eye out for more news about the latest updates we’re bringing to Apex Legends.”

Since its surprise release in February 2019, Apex Legends has gone on to become one of the biggest Battle Royale games, with over 70 million players. It is nice to see that Switch owners can now get in on the action too.

Apex Legends, Respawn's popular battle royale shooter, will be launching on Steam on the 4th of November, coinciding with the launch of the game's 7th season of content.

While some EA games on Steam require Origin to be running in the background, Apex Legends won't be one of them, although you'll be able to link the game to your EA account as you do with Star Wars Squadrons.

Once Apex Legends arrives, most of EA's big back catalogue titles will have made their way onto Steam, although the process has taken a while. After all, EA did announce that it would be coming back to Steam in late 2019.

KitGuru Says: Are many of you still playing Apex Legends? Will you be switching to the Steam version once it arrives?

Apparently, an Arena Mode might come to Apex Legends. A dataminer found references to it in the code of the game's 6.1 patch, more exactly a UI slot for a new mode called “Arenas” in Apex Legends' “Play” menu.

Dataminer @shrugtal (via PCGamesN) believes he has found proof that Respawn Entertainment is working on an Arena mode for Apex Legends. The dataminer wonders if the developer is “planning to transfer the Flashpoint-style healing into a smaller arena-sized squads mode”, something that he believes that it would be good to warm up and train in the game.

Additionally, he also claimed that Respawn wanted to “bring Skull Town back”, and this might be the way they have decided to do it, making some sort of “Skull Town-only map with a handful of Squads”.

Respawn Entertainment is yet to confirm this mode and might not even do it at all. Not everything that it's found in the game's code is put into production. Nonetheless, there's also the chance that it might be introduced at the end of the current season or right when the new season starts.

Apex Legends is free-to-play on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A release for the next-gen consoles and Nintendo switch is also coming.

Since its launch back in February 2019, many fans of the Battle Royale game Apex Legends have been hoping to see a Switch version come to light. While it was later announced that a Switch port was on its way, we just received the clearest indication yet that the game may be coming to Nintendo’s hybrid system very soon.

Back in June, Respawn Entertainment announced that the much-loved first-person Battle Royale shooter Apex Legends would be coming to the Nintendo Switch. At the time, no release date was given, aside from a vague ‘Fall 2020’. Of course, with the effects of the global pandemic, many games have since been delayed, and with few updates by Respawn, some feared that Apex Legends may have suffered a similar fate.

It appears however that this won’t be the case. While the Switch version still has yet to receive a release date, the game was recently rated by the ESRB (the Entertainment Software Rating Board), which quite often is one of the final steps that a game goes through prior to its launch.

This impending Switch release also lines up with the game’s crossplay update. Starting last week, Apex Legends added the ability to play with users from other platforms – albeit with the functionality still in beta. That being said, with crossplay now live, the game’s Switch release is ripe for launching any time soon. Hopefully an official announcement isn't too far away.

Today, Apex Legends officially implements NVIDIA Reflex, the new technology to reduce system latency/input lag in competitive games. So far, this has been implemented in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Valorant and a couple of other select titles.

Apex Legends is the latest to join that growing list, implementing NVIDIA Reflex to improve input responsiveness. This is done through a new API that enables the game to complete ‘just-in-time' rendering, eliminating GPU rendering queues and reducing CPU load on GPU intensive scenes. Of course, those using a high refresh rate monitor will see the most benefit.

Aside from Apex Legends gaining NVIDIA Reflex today, the GeForce specialists also have one other piece of news- Watch Dogs Legion's updated PC system requirements.

When Ubisoft initially announced its PC system requirements for this game, it had to use last-gen GPUs for ray-tracing specs as the RTX 30 series had not launched yet. That has now changed, so as you would expect, the RTX 3080 is recommended for 4K/Ultra ray-tracing, the RTX 3070 is recommended for 1440p/very-high ray-tracing and the RTX 2060 (which has no 30-series replacement yet) is recommended for 1080p/high ray-tracing. You can see our full breakdown of Watch Dogs Legion's system requirements HERE.

KitGuru Says: A couple of interesting updates from Nvidia today. Have any of you tried NVIDIA Reflex in a supported game recently? Will you be switching it on in Apex Legends?

Respawn Entertainment has wanted to bring cross-play multiplayer to Apex Legends for a long, long time now. Back in  June, the studio confirmed plans to bring the feature to the game later this year and next week, it will officially be going into beta.

The cross-play beta will cover PC, Xbox One and PS4, combining all of the multiplayer pools for theoretically quicker and more varied matchmaking. Cross-progression is unfortunately not included though, so you'll need to level up and grind on different platforms independently of each other.

Cross-play will be switched on by default in Apex Legends, but only for console players. You will need to manually opt-in to a lobby with PC players by teaming up with one friend playing via Origin. Cross-play will also be supported for PC players on Steam later in the year when the game comes to Valve's platform.

We don't know how long the feature will be in beta for, or if input-based matchmaking will be implemented later down the line similarly to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Hopefully we'll find out more as the month goes on.

KitGuru Says: Apex Legends is finally getting cross-play, which should be a decent boost for matchmaking queues, although it is a shame that PC players are still stuck to their own lobbies unless playing with someone on a console. At the same time, given the mouse/keyboard advantage, it also makes sense. Are many of you still playing Apex Legends regularly?

During Electronic Arts’ ‘EA Play 2020’ event, the publisher announced that it would be bringing its popular Battle Royale shooter Apex Legends to the Nintendo Switch. Now, in its most recent investor fireside chat, EA announced its intentions to bring Apex Legends to mobile platforms “by the end of the year.”

In a discussion surrounding mobile business growth, EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson stated that “we have [Plants vs Zombies] 3 in soft launch,” and also “we've talked about Apex Legends in soft launch by the end of this year.”

Back in May of 2019, it was officially announced that Apex Legends would be coming to both iOS and Android, though no date was given. Then, last February, more details were provided, including the fact that the publisher had found a studio to “create a mobile Apex Legends that will be released globally.”

Though no further details are known about the mobile offering, such as whether it will have feature parity or even cross-play, the notion of a mobile Apex Legends makes perfect sense – especially if EA wishes to continue remaining competitive within the Battle Royale space.

Apex Legends was announced to have hit 70 million players back in October of 2019. The game is currently only available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC however. The impending Switch and mobile launches could do a lot to further increase these figures, especially as other Battle Royale shooters such as Fortnite are now boasting registered player counts of over 350 million.

No exact specifics are currently known regarding how EA plans to soft launch the game, but even so, it’ll be interesting to see how successfully they manage to translate the game’s fast-paced control scheme to mobile.
