New photos of the AMD Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards show two different coolers, one featuring a 3-fan design and the other featuring a 2-fan design. Additionally, a Linux kernel patch submitted by AMD suggests that the upcoming RDNA2 graphics cards will support AV1 decoding.

Revealed by JayzTwoCents, the first photo shown by the Youtuber confirms the cooler design previously shared by AMD, showcasing a triple-fan cooler. The second photo shows a 2-fan cooler with similar aesthetics to the triple-fan one, expected to be used on a less powerful Navi 21 GPU. This two-fan graphics card also features 2x 8-pin power connectors, just like the triple-fan one.

JayzTwoCents stated that the triple-fan cooler should be used on the flagship model, likely named RX 6900, while the two-fan cooler will probably be used on the less powerful “RX 6800” and “RX 6700”.

Also related to the upcoming Navi graphics cards, Redditor u/stblr found that a Linux kernel patch with AV1 codec registers was submitted by AMD, somewhat confirming that the RDNA2 cards will support AV1 decoding. This comes after Nvidia confirms that the RTX 30 series cards will also support AV1 and that Intel Tiger Lake CPUs featuring Xe-LP graphics will support it too.

For those who don't know, AV1 is an open video coding format created to succeed Google's VP9 and to rival the H265 (HEVC). This video coding format is used by Microsoft and Google on Windows 10 and Chrome browser, respectively.
