be quiet! has launched white models of its Silent Wings 4 and Silent Wings Pro 4 fans. These fans are designed to deliver optimal performance when paired with heatsinks, cases, or radiators and feature interchangeable mounting corners, making them adaptable to various settings.

These fans come in two sizes (120mm and 140mm) and two models: PWM and PWM high-speed. The PWM variants are best suited as case fans, with maximum speeds of 1600 rpm (120mm) and 1100 rpm (140mm), while the PWM high-speed versions are designed for heat sinks and radiators, with greater speeds of 2500 rpm and 1900 rpm, respectively. All Silent Wings 4 White fans use a 6-pole fan motor with three phases and fluid-dynamic bearings to ensure a 300,000-hour lifetime.

The Silent Wings Pro 4 White is perfect for customers who want a high-end fan. It has the same characteristics as the Silent Wings 4 White but with increased rotational speeds of 3000 rpm for the 120mm version and 2400 rpm for the 140mm version. Customers can adjust the maximum speed depending on their desired usage: “Medium” for silent operation, “High Speed” for a noise/performance balance, and “Ultra High Speed” for maximum performance. The Silent Wings Pro 4 White also has corners designed to attach it to radiators. These corners tightly fit around the fan to minimise air leakage and maintain optimum static pressure.

The fans also come with a high-quality white mesh sleeve cable and an easy-to-use motherboard connection. All versions of the Silent Wings Pro 4 White and Silent Wings 4 White series will be available from April 9th. The Silent Wings 4 White 120mm models (standard and High Speed) will go for £21.99/€24.90/$23.90, while the 140mm models (standard and High Speed) will cost £23.99/€25.90/$24.90. As for the Pro models, the 120mm model will cost £29.99/€32.90/$31.90, and the 140mm model will go for £30.99/€33.90/$32.90.

KitGuru says: If you're planning to build an all-white PC with high-end components, you now have another fan series that might be worth considering.

The be quiet! Dark Base 701 and Dark Base Pro 901 are back with new monochrome White versions. Both cases impressed us in their original form last year, but now, there is an option for those who prefer an all-white build.

The Dark Base Pro 901 White features a silence-oriented and performance-optimized solution for the top and the front of the case, thanks to the included exchangeable panels. A detachable top and front bracket with included fan hub and pogo pin connector allows for comfortable installation of radiators and fans. The case supports an inverted layout if you want to go for something a bit different and the cooling demand is handled by three pre-installed Silent Wings 4 White 140mm PWM fans.

The Dark Base 701 White is built for high airflow and performance, thanks to fully perforated mesh panels that are ideal for case fans or water cooling. Thanks to three pre-installed Silent Wings 4 White 140mm PWM fans and room for an additional five 120mm or 140mm fans, this case can fulfil the cooling requirements of modern high-end systems with ease.

The whole motherboard tray can be taken out for assembly outside the case, the tray can be inverted with a few simple steps, and three additional vertical slots are available for vertical GPU installation with an optional riser cable.

We already have reviews of the original Black versions of the Dark Base Pro 901 and Dark Base 701. The new White versions will be launching on the 5th of March, priced at £319.99 for the Dark Base Pro 901 White and £239.99 for the Dark Base 701 White.

be quiet! has introduced a new colour option for its mainstream Pure Wings 3 fan series. The Pure Wings 3 White is the ideal PC fan for any application, from workstations to entry-level gaming builds, thanks to its low minimum rpm and high top-end speed.

Unlike the Pure Wings 3 Black, the new Pure Wings 3 White will not come in 3-pin models and will be available in four-pin versions only: 120mm PWM, 120mm PWM high-speed, 140mm PWM, and 140mm PWM high-speed. The fan stickers were redesigned with a grey-on-white colour scheme that complements the overall aesthetics.

Like the original high-speed Pure Wings 3, the respective white variants feature a closed-loop motor that ensures consistent rpm regardless of resistance by continually checking the current rpm and adjusting it to the desired level. The fan frame outlet of Pure Wings 3 White is specially designed to reduce air leakage, thereby improving radiator performance. The fan blades were also optimised, with the angle adjusted to increase air pressure and reduce turbulence. Apart from being effective on radiators, these fans are suitable for cases. Thanks to the proven rifle-bearing technology they use, they're rated for a lifetime of 80,000 hours.

The Pure Wings 3 White 120mm PWM high-speed and Pure Wings 3 White 140mm PWM high-speed variants are designed for demanding systems, with maximum speeds of 2100 rpm and 1600 rpm, respectively, and nine airflow-optimised fan blades. These variants produce a high air pressure of up to 2.41mm/H2O for the 120mm variant and 2.44mm/H2O for the 140mm variant. The Pure Wings 3 White fans will come out on February 13th, with the 120mm model costing £10.99/$9.90/€13.99 and the 140mm models priced at £10.99/$11.90/€14.99.

At CES this week, be quiet! is launching several new products, including the new Dark Base Pro 901 and Dark Base 701 White cases, along with new white versions of the Silent Wings 4 and Pure Wings 3 fans. There is also excellent news for those who picked up an ATX 3.0 power supply, or plan to in the future.

The be quiet! Dark Base Pro 901 features removable sound-dampening panels and an interchangeable front panel so you can configure the case for better airflow or for minimal noise. Subtle ARGB lighting can be found in the front of the case and around the PSU shroud and you can use included brackets to easily mount fans or radiators straight into the fan hub. The case ships with three pre-installed Silent Wings 4 fans that match the new white colour of the case, and you get a cool touch-sensitive I/O panel and a wireless smartphone fast charger with fast charging support.

The Dark Base 701 is a fully performance-oriented case with mesh covers and radiator support up to 360mm for liquid cooling. It supports an inverted motherboard layout if you'd like to switch things up and it supports vertical GPUs out of the box too. ARGB lighting returns around the front panel, brackets can be used to more easily install sets of fans or radiators and you'll get three pre-installed Silent Wings 4 140mm fans, with two in the front and one in the rear . A tempered glass side window offers a good view of your build and you'll have plenty of room for extra fans in the front, top and bottom of the case, as well as plenty of additional storage with room for 2x HDDs and 4x SSDs.

The Silent Wings 4 fans come in two versions, a standard model with a maximum RPM of 1,600 while in normal operation, getting a boost up to 2,500 RPM in high-speed mode. The 140mm version doesn't need to operate as fast, delivering 1,100 RPM, boosted to a max of 1,900 RPM in high-speed mode. The Silent Wings 4 Pro 120mm can range from 1,600 RPM up to 3,000 RPM, while the 140mm version can range from 1,100 RPM to 2,400 RPM with three speed modes included and easily adjusted via a fan switch.

Finally, be quiet! has also announced plans to upgrade their current ATX 3.0 PSUs to ATX 3.1 and all new models will follow the latest standard too. The new 12V-2×6 90-degree cable will also soon be available and is compatible with any 12V6 or 12VHPWR connector. It can also be used on ATX 3.0 or newer ATX 3.1 PSUs.

The new Dark Base Pro 901 White will go for $299 with availability planned for March 2024. The Dark Base 701 White is also launching in March 2024 but will be a bit cheaper at $239. On the fan side, the Silent Wings Pro 4 White is expected to cost $25 for the standard 140mm version and $33 for the Pro version. The Pure Wings 3 White fans come in a bit cheaper at $11 for the 120mm version and $13 for the 140mm version. The new 12V-2×6 90-degree cable will be available this month, priced at $16.90.

We've been impressed by plenty of be quiet! cases in recent years and the company aims to keep that trend going with its new Dark Base 701 chassis. The new case features a complete mesh top and front, along with three Silent Wings 4 fans to keep your PC running cool and quiet.

The Dark Base 701 is the successor to the Dark Base 700, with a new approach. While the previous model was designed for silent operation, the Dark Base 701 prioritises airflow, featuring perforated mesh panels suitable for case fans or water cooling. It's equipped with three pre-installed Silent Wings 4 140mm PWM fans, which can reach a maximum speed of 1900 RPM. There's also space for up to five extra 120mm or 140mm fans, making it easy to meet the cooling needs of high-end systems.

This case is user-friendly, regardless of your level of expertise. The installation of HDDs and SSDs is tool-free, and fans and radiators (up to 360mm) can be mounted on a removable front frame or a top frame that can be pulled out. The motherboard tray can be removed for assembly outside the case and flipped 180° if you prefer a different layout. Three extra vertical slots are accessible with an optional riser cable for vertical GPU installation.

RGB enthusiasts will be pleased to know that there are two ARGB LED strips that run along the front panel and are linked to a hub (fan and ARGB) that supports up to 8 PWM fans and two extra ARGB devices. The front I/O has dedicated ARGB and fan controller buttons, one USB-C port, two USB-A ports, and audio input and output. Cable routing channels keep the case's interior clean, and a tempered glass side window provides an excellent view of the PC components.

The Dark Base 701 will be available in black on November 14th for $229.90/€229.00/£229.99. An optional drive cage and a riser cable for vertical GPU installation can be bought for €9.90/$9.90/£9.99 and €59.90/$54.90/£59.99, respectively. A white variant of the Dark Base 701 will be released next year.

The be quiet! Pure Wings 3 fans have officially arrived. With a low minimum rpm and high top-end speed, and additional fan blades over the standard 7-blade fan design, the Pure Wings 3 looks to be a good choice for improving airflow.

The Pure Wings 3 fan is available in two sizes (120mm and 140mm) and three different versions (3-pin, 4-pin PWM, and 4-pin PWM high-speed). The high-speed versions include a new closed-loop motor to stabilise the rpm regardless of resistance.

The Pure Wings 3's fan frame outlet has been redesigned to reduce air leakage, improving radiator performance in the process. Furthermore, the fan blades' angle was changed to create even more air pressure for additional cooling performance. However, the Pure Wings 3 isn't only recommended as a radiator fan. It also works well as a case fan. The airflow-optimised fan blades decrease turbulence (reducing noise) and ensure good performance. True to the company's name, the Pure Wings 3 fans are quiet due to their low starting rpm and have an 80,000-hour lifetime thanks to their rifle-bearing technology.

The Pure Wings 120mm PWM high-speed and 140mm PWM high-speed models come with nine blades (instead of seven) and are aimed at high-end systems, offering maximum speeds of 2100 rpm and 1600 rpm, respectively. As such, the air pressure can reach up to 2.41mm/H2O for the 120mm version and 2.44mm/H2O for the 140mm version. Also, the high-speed variants contain a unique closed-loop motor, similar to a cruise control in a vehicle. When operating against resistance, fans often spin slower. The closed-loop motor technology continuously checks the current rpm and, if required, raises it to the target speed. Pure Wings 3 will be available on November 7th, starting at £10.99/$9.99/€13.90

be quiet! announced two new air coolers, the Dark Rock Elite and Dark Rock Pro 5. The former is a new product, as opposed to Dark Rock Pro 5, which is the successor to the award-winning Dark Rock Pro 4. The Dark Rock Elite is designed for customers that want a high-end air cooler, featuring ARGB lighting and an innovative rail system for increased RAM clearance. Meanwhile, the Dark Rock Pro 5 provides remarkable cooling performance with very low noise levels on all major consumer sockets.

The Dark Rock Elite packs two 135mm Silent Wings fans with up to 2000RPM speeds, seven heat pipes for swiftly moving heat away from the processor, and a Speed Switch that allows users to quickly switch between Performance and Quiet modes.

Various high-end features on the Dark Rock Elite make it stand out from the crowd, including a top cover with ARGB lighting and a front fan mounting rail with adjustable height settings, offering up to 69mm above the second RAM slot. Above the first RAM slot, RAM clearance is 63.3mm, while cut-outs on the heatsink edges provide good VRM compatibility. The Dark Rock Elite also has a removable top cover for simple installation, a nickel-plated base that is compatible with liquid metal thermal paste, and a 3-year warranty.

Moving on to the Dark Rock Pro 5, it has 7 heat pipes and comes with two Silent Wings PWM fans. The 120mm front fan features a funnel-shaped output for efficient air circulation and can be adjusted in height to suit tall RAM modules. Additionally, there's a 135mm middle fan attached to the meshed top cover. Installation of the Dark Rock Pro 5 is easier than ever thanks to a permanent mounting bridge on the cooler's base and a removable top cover. Both fans include fluid-dynamic bearings, 6-pole motors, and airflow-optimised blades.

The Dark Rock Pro 5 has the same integrated Speed Switch as the Elite, allowing users to choose between a Quiet Mode and a Performance Mode that raises the front fan's speed to 2000RPM and the middle fan to 1700RPM. Like the Dark Rock Elite, the Dark Rock Pro 5 is compatible with liquid metal thermal paste and features similar cut-outs for increased VRM compatibility and a 3-year warranty.

The Dark Rock Elite and Dark Rock Pro 5 are compatible with Intel LGA 1700, 1200, 115X, and AMD AM5 and AM4 sockets. both coolers will be available on October 24th, with the Dark Rock Elite going for $114.90/€114.90/£109.99 and the Dark Rock Pro 5 for $99.90/€99.90/£99.99.

The team at be quiet! has consistently impressed with its line of PC cases. Today, the company is launching the new Shadow Base 800 series, a new family of cases designed to offer exceptional airflow and all the space needed for a high-end rig, including support for E-ATX motherboards and up to 420mm liquid cooling radiators.

The Shadow Base 800 comes in a few different forms. There is the standard black model, which removes RGB and fan hub features to bring down the price tag. The DX models are available in black and white and do come with ARGB lighting at a slightly higher price tag. Finally, the FX models ship with extra fans and include both ARGB LEDs and a hub to connect everything together.

The Shadow Base 800 is aimed at PC builders looking to put together the rig of their dreams. It has an open mesh design for optimal airflow, space for up to E-ATX motherboards and 420mm radiators, a tool-less HDD and SSD design and a big tempered glass window so you can easily glance at all of the hardware inside.

You can see the breakdown of each model and the prices in the table below:

Back when the RTX 4090 first began making its way into the hands of consumers some found their 12VHPWR connectors melting on the side connected to the graphics card. Now, the first user report of a 12VHPWR cable melting on the PSU side has surfaced.

In photos shared to Reddit, one be quiet! Dark Power 13 user found their native 12VHPWR cable had melted on the side connected to the power supply, reigniting some concerns around the reliability of 12VHPWR cables. The images show damage to the bottom row of pins on both the connector and the PSU port.

be quiet! is already investigating this issue and it is worth noting that right now, this is an isolated issue, with only one public report. If you encounter something similar, you should contact be quiet! support to report the issue. They may want to ask a few questions about your PC setup in order to try and find the root cause.

For now, we don't know exactly what caused the issue. When 12VHPWR connectors were melting on RTX 4090s, some degree of user error was found, but that user error was compounded by certain design decisions, as users were inadvertently not pushing in the connector all the way, or were accidentally loosening it while routing cables.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru says: It will be interesting to see exactly what went wrong here. Hopefully the cause of the issue can be recognised soon enough, although in rare cases like this, troubleshooting can take a bit longer.

First up we have the new Dark Base Pro 901, be quiet!'s new flagship case. Designed to be the “epitome of a flexible user-friendly case”, this chassis features a significant reduction in screws and small parts. The top and front panels can be exchanged for a choice in maximum airflow or virtually inaudible operation, fan and radiator brackets now feature an integrated hub with pogo pins, the I/O panel is touch sensitive and the wireless charger has been upgraded to 15W fast charging for compatible smartphones. Fans of big radiators can fit a 420mm model in the front of the case, while the pre-installed Silent Wings 4 fans ensure great airflow.

Next up is the Dark Base 701, which has an open mesh design for maximum airflow. The chassis supports liquid cooling radiators up to 360mm and it can support an inverted motherboard layout and vertical graphics card installation. The case ships with three Silent Wings 4 fans pre-installed and removable brackets for radiators make for easy and convenient installation. Donning the sides of the front panel, you'll find two ARGB LED strips to add some extra flair to your rig.

If you are after something bigger, then the Shadow Base 800 might be for you. This is a case built for large hardware, with room for E-ATX motherboards and 420mm liquid cooling radiators in the top and front of the case. There will be two versions of this case, one with regular Pure Wings 3 fans. The Shadow Base 800 DX will feature RGB fans instead and will ship with an ARGB lighting controller too.

be quiet! has been making positive moves on the power supply front for years and with the transition to ATX 3.0, things have only ramped up. The Straight Power 12 line-up offers 80Plus Platinum certification for excellent efficiency and it natively supports PCIe 5.0 devices, including graphics cards that require a new 12VHPWR cable. The Straight Power 12 PSUs all ship with two PCIe 5.0 12VHPWR 600W cables and four PCIe 6+2 connectors.

Last on the list is a new accessory, a riser cable compatible with all current and future be quiet! cases that support vertical GPU mounting. The riser cable can help prevent sagging and has a sleek all-black design so it won't look out of place in your build.

KitGuru Says: be quiet! has some interesting cases heading our way in the second half of the year. Will you be considering one of these for a new PC upgrade?

be quiet! has unveiled the Dark Power 13 series, the company's first ATX 3.0-compliant power supplies. Following in the footsteps of Dark Power 12, the new PSU series comes in three variants: 750W, 850W, and 1000W. All models are equipped with upgraded Silent Wings 135mm fans and are certified as 80 Plus Titanium.

With these new ATX 3.0 power supplies, the Dark Power 13 series also adheres to the power standards set by PCIe 5.0. In contrast to ATX 2.x, ATX 3.0 establishes precise target values, including that the PCIe connection for the graphics card must allow load variations of up to three times the power consumption. Moreover, be quiet!'s new PSUs can deliver up to 600W of power through the accompanying 12VHPWR socket while still including four PCIe 6+2 connectors for extended graphics card compatibility.

Like the Dark Power 12 PSUs, the new series also uses the “Active Rectifier + Full Bridge LLC + SR + DC-DC” topology and a wire-free interior design on the DC side to meet the 80 Plus Titanium certification (up to 95.8% efficiency). Inside these units, you'll find Japanese 105°C capacitors for increased reliability and high-quality signal for the four 12V rails. To cool the unit, the Dark Power 13 series uses patented frameless Silent Wings 135 mm fans encircled by a funnel-shaped air intake beneath a complete mesh grill.

Other features inherited by the Dark Power 13 PSUs include the Overclocking key that enables the user to switch between multi-rail and single-rail modes with the press of a button. In addition, the new power supplies make use of a steel enclosure and a modular design featuring a set of modular, black-sleeved cables to power components. A 10-year manufacturer's warranty is also on hand for peace of mind.

These Dark Power 13 series will be available in stores on January 24th for $289.90/€294.90/£289.99 for the 1000W model, $249.90/€259.90/£249.99 for the 850W, and $209.90/€214.90/£209.99 for the 750W.

KitGuru says: With both graphics cards and certain CPUs drawing more power than ever, a quality PSU is a must. Hopefully these units from be quiet! perform as well as they look.

We're continuing to do the rounds here at CES this week. Today, we swung by the be quiet! booth to check out the company's new ATX 3.0 power supplies, including the new Dark Power 13, which is rated with 80Plus Titanium Efficiency.

This year at CES, be quiet!'s big announcements primarily focus on power supplies, with the new Dark Power 13 and Pure Power 12 M units. The Dark Power 13 is an 80Plus Titanium ATX 3.0 PSU, making it perfect for the new wave of graphics cards, whether they are powered by the new 12VHPWR connector, or by standard PCIe 6-pin connectors. This PSU packs both, so you can plug in the 12VHPWR cable if you need it, or you can swap it out for up to four traditional 6+2 PCIe pin connectors. This unit is also particularly well suited for overclocking thanks to its overclocking key, allowing you to switch from four 12V rails and one massive 12V rail.

The Dark Power 13 will be available in 1000W, 850W and 750W models, with prices starting at $209.90.

The Pure Power 12 M is also an ATX 3.0 PSU, fully compatible with new-gen and old-gen graphics cards. Like the Dark Power 13, it offers both 12VHPWR and PCIe pin connectors for graphics and you get fully modular cables too. However, the Pure Power 12 M is 80Plus Gold rated instead, and is available in a wider range of wattages, starting at 550W and going up to 1000W. Prices for the Pure Power 12 M start at $94.90.

On the cooling front, while be quiet! doesn't have a major new product like a new Dark Rock cooler, or perhaps a new AIO, the company is debuting new Light Wings White fans, offering the popular, high-performance ARGB fan in a new colour option for those looking to build a white system.

Alongside that, be quiet! is also revamping its lineup of thermal compounds. The new DC2 Pro is be quiet!'s first liquid metal thermal compound, with high thermal conductivity to make for quicker heat transfer and more efficient cooling. There is also the standard DC2 thermal grease for CPUs & GPUs or other chips. This is be quiet!'s high-performance thermal grease and is sold separately rather than bundled with current coolers.

KitGuru Says: Are you planning on building a new PC this year? Will you be opting for a newer ATX 3.0 PSU over an older generation model?

By now you've probably seen from Leo's build that be quiet! are currently celebrating their 20th anniversary, and are launching a new range of FX branded products to commemorate the occasion. After seeing Leo's build, I decided to try and take things to the next level with a second anniversary build, incorporating an LCD display and powder-coated orange panels…

Specification:

To celebrate be quiet!'s 20th anniversary, I've built a unique system incorporating the new Pure base 500FX and the Pure Loop 2 FX 240mm. This system boasts a custom colour scheme with powder-coated panels and vents, and also includes a modified SSD bay to the side of the motherboard where we have installed an 11.9-inch display to be used with AIDA 64.

On hardware for this build we have teamed up with MSI, they kindly sent over a Z690 Edge WiFi. The board supports Intel 12th gen processors, DDR5, has 4 m.2 slots, WiFi 6, 2.5Gb LAN, and a premium thermal solution. It’s a great-looking board and while I was tempted to remove some of the heatsinks and send them off to the powder coaters too, but we like the design of this board and with all the other orange parts, didn’t want to go too over the top.

The CPU was sent over by Intel and is their i7-12700 processor. It's not a K SKU but this system is possibly going to be used more for storage and back up so there wasn’t a great need for anything too powerful and the 12700 is more than enough for our needs.

For memory, we used 16GB of XPG Lancer DDR5 at 6000MHz in a 2x 8GB configuration. For storage, we are cramming all four M.2 slots on the MSI motherboard full of storage thanks to Seagate, using 4 of their FireCuda 510 NVMe drives.

Zotac sent over an RTX 3070 AMP Holo Edition, a great-looking card with a metal backplate that helps stiffen up the card and includes great lighting integration. To tie into the theme we were going to powder coat the backplate and spray paint the original Holo shroud orange, but we chose to go black instead, again conscious of overdoing the orange in this build.

Our CPU cooler is of course the Pure Loop 2 FX, the 240mm version with 2 included Light Wings fans and this is installed on the top of the case. I was tempted to use the 360mm version to the front of the case, but that would then block some of the display. It’s an easy-to-install AIO and performs really well, it’s nice and quiet too and has that lovely backlit be quiet! logo.

Finally, on power, Kris used the be quiet! Dark Power Pro 12 1200W, yes it’s a little overkill but it’s such a great premium quality power supply that he just thought why not? To compliment the power supply, Michael Sheppard at To The Wire Mods has generously sent some custom extensions over to finish off the build with a touch of orange.

Today is a big day for the folks at be quiet!, as the company is now officially celebrating their 20th anniversary. With that comes a new product launch – a new series of ‘FX' RGB hardware, including a new case and two new CPU coolers.

Up first is the new Pure Base 500 FX, which prominently features in Leo's be quiet! anniversary PC build, which you can see HERE. Highlights from the case include pre-installed Light Wings ARGB high airflow fans, an  ARGB/fan hub capable of syncing up to six ARGB components and six PWM fans, room for up to 360mm liquid cooling radiators and an easy layout for putting your system together.

The be quiet! Pure Base 500 FX will be available starting this month for £119.90.

The Pure Loop 2 FX is a new version of the popular AIO liquid cooler, offering up to three Light Wings PWM fans, a doubly decoupled PWM pump to keep noise levels low, an easy-access refill port if you want to top up your coolant and a nickel-coated cold plate, making this AIO suitable for use with liquid metal thermal compound.

The Pure Loop 2 FX will also be available starting this month, priced at £99.90 for the 240mm version, £109.90 for the 280mm version and £124.90 for the 360mm version.

Finally, if liquid cooling isn't your thing, then be quiet! has also announced the Pure Rock 2 FX Black CPU air cooler, combining vibrant RGB illumination with a stealthy black heatsink and high cooling efficiency. The cooler has a 150W TDP cooling efficiency and ships with a Light Wings 120mm PWM fan. The heatsink has four 6mm heat pipes with HDT technology and is constructed in a way to avoid blocking your memory slots.

The Pure Rock 2 FX will be available starting this month for £39.90.

Our friends at be quiet! are celebrating their 20th Anniversary in the traditional German manner by sending out boxes of PC components with an RGB theme. KitGuru decided to help the party along by adding the refreshments. The resulting video is a PC build that gets a bit chaotic towards the end. Happy birthday be quiet!

Specification:

Case: be quiet! Pure Base 500 FX
Power supply: be quiet! Pure Power 11 FM 850W
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Pure Loop 2 FX 240
Processor: Intel Core i7-12700K
Motherboard: MSI MPG Z690 Carbon WiFi
Memory: 32GB Kingston Fury Beast RGB 6000MT/s
Graphics card: Sapphire Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB
SSD: Sabrent Rocket 4.0 M.2 NVMe
OS: Windows 10

be quiet! sent us variants of a case, power supply and AIO cooler that we have previously reviewed so if you fancy doing some homework you can read about the be quiet! 500 DX case HERE, the be quiet! Pure Loop 360 AIO cooler HERE and the be quiet! Pure Power 11 power supply HERE. The big difference between the hardware in those reviews and the FX versions we are using here is the inclusion of be quiet! Light Wings fans which you can read about HERE.

The be quiet! 500FX case is a slender mid-tower ATX model and we expected we might run into issues with the DDR5 RAM clashing with the Pure Loop 2 FX 280 AIO cooler that we were sent for this sponsored build. As we mention in our video, if you hit that specific problem the easiest way out is to switch your RAM to a low profile model such as Corsair Vengeance LPX.

As we show in our video we ran into a slightly different problem as the 280mm AIO hit the VRM heatsinks on our MSI MPG Z690 Carbon Wi-Fi motherboard, which meant the radiator mounting holes were out of line by a couple of millimetres. The answer was to switch to a slimmer 240mm AIO however that required a degree of fancy footwork. The Pure Loop 240 cooler we had on the shelf is supplied with regular Pure Wings 2 fans and we needed RGB to supply the maximum bling for this birthday celebration. The answer was to add two 120mm Light Wings fans and voila, we had created our very own Pure Loop 2 FX 240 cooler.

Cable management in this compact PC is less than stellar. We are dealing with a large RGB/PWM fan hub and as a result the cables are all over the place. Thankfully the Pure Base 500 FX has a solid right hand panel and once the cables are all secured in place they are fully covered and out of sight.

The finished PC is neat and tidy with just the right amount of RGB on show. We have an illuminated CPU block in the be quiet! Pure Loop AIO cooler, six be quiet! Light Wings fans and an illuminated strip in the front of the be quiet! 500 FX case. The finishing touch is the mesh front panel on the front of the case which means you can see the full light show whenever you look at your PC.

To our way of thinking, this is a PC that deserves to sit on your desk in plain view and should certainly not be hidden away out of sight!

be quiet! has been working away on its next-generation Silent Wings 4 fans for a couple of years now, with the first 3D-printed prototype arriving in 2020. Now in 2022, the new Silent Wings 4 fans are ready to hit shelves. Following on from an initial unveiling last month, be quiet! has now announced that its Silent Wings 4 fans will be available later this month.

The Silent Wings 4 and Silent Wings 4 Pro fans are primarily designed to offer great airflow for heatsinks and radiators, but they also work great as case fans. With the Silent Wings 4 series, be quiet! has increased the RPM range up to 3,000, so you can find the right balance between quiet operation and maximum performance.

Even with its high RPM, the Silent Wings 4 promise to still be very quiet compared to standard fans. The fans are equipped with a 6-pole fan motor for less power consumption and vibration, and the fans have an anti-vibration push pin installation method when used as a case fan, which should help keep noise to a minimum. On the Pro fans, there is also a speed switch, which allows users to move between different PWM profiles on the fly.

In the table below you can see all upcoming Silent Wings 4 and Silent Wings 4 Pro series fans, alongside their maximum RPM and pricing:

Silent Wings 4 120mm > 1600 rpm $22.90 / €23.90 / £20.99
Silent Wings 4 120mm PWM > 1600 rpm $22.90 / €23.90 / £20.99
Silent Wings 4 120mm PWM high-speed > 2500 rpm $22.90 / €23.90 / £20.99
Silent Wings 4 140mm > 1100 rpm $23.90 / €24.90 / £22.99
Silent Wings 4 140mm PWM > 1100 rpm $23.90 / €24.90 / £22.99
Silent Wings 4 140mm PWM high-speed > 1900 rpm $23.90 / €24.90 / £22.99
Silent Wings Pro 4 120mm PWM > 3000 rpm $30.90 / €31.90 / £28.99
Silent Wings Pro 4 140mm PWM > 2400 rpm $31.90 / €32.90 / £29.99

The be quiet! Silent Wings 4 fans will be available starting on the 19th of July. Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

be quiet! has been working away on its next-generation Silent Wings 4 fans for a couple of years now, with the first 3D-printed prototype arriving in 2020. Now in 2022, the new Silent Wings 4 fans are ready to hit shelves, promising improved performance.

The Silent Wings 4 fans are primarily intended for use with radiators and heatsinks, though be quiet! did stress to us that they are just as, if not more air-flow capable than the Silent Wings 3 series. These new fans also offer a higher range of up to 3000 RPM, giving users the choice between quieter operation or maximum performance.

For fan blades, frame and mounting corners, be quiet! is using polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), reinforced with up to 30% fibre glass. This material does not show any signs of impeller creep at the specified maximum RPM of 3,000, even after long periods. If you make the jump to the Silent Wings Pro 4 fans, then you'll also benefit from a speed switch, a patent-pending technology that allows users to switch between different PWM profiles.

The be quiet! Silent Wings 4 fans will be available soon, priced at €24.90 for the 140mm version or €23.90 for the 120mm version. The Silent Wings Pro 4 fans will also be available soon, priced at €32.90 for the 140mm version or €31.90 for the 120mm version.

So onto the build, as well as turning out looking great, it was a pretty simple and hassle-free system to put together. A little extra time was needed to be spent on cable management due to the amount of RGB cables coming from the fans, but that’s nothing out of the ordinary for a build these days with most people opting for RGB lighting in one form or another.

The good thing about the Light Wings fans is that they use standard 3 pin 5v ARGB cable connections which makes it easier when building the system as you don’t necessarily need an ARGB controller, you can just connect directly to motherboard headers and use the motherboard software to synchronise RGB lighting which we did and it worked flawlessly.

We opted to install the CPU radiator in the roof of the case using the pull out rad/fan bracket which was useful, it also allowed for the majority of the fan cables to be hidden up behind the radiator too. The graphics card radiator is installed at the front of the case. Removing one of the covers on the power supply shroud was necessary to allow the radiator and tubing to drop down into position which again worked well as it meant the radiator could be positioned centrally on the front panel.

The rest of the build is pretty much self-explanatory, due to the Silent Base 802 being quite a large ATX Mid-Tower case, there was no issue with clearances, in fact, we think pretty much any current-generation graphics card, CPU cooler and power supply will fit in this case with minimal effort needed. Support for up to E-ATX motherboards also means that any desktop system can be built in the Silent Base 802.

Light Wings Fan Performance

Featured in the system is the Sapphire Toxic Radeon RX 6950XT graphics card which we used in a previous build. This is a card we really like so we thought why not use it again in a different configuration. The only minor and I mean very minor gripe we have with the card is the radiator fans as they are difficult to match (in terms of looks) up with other fans in the system.

So, we did a little experiment to see if be quiet! Light Wings fans could be fitted to the radiator and if the fan speed could be configured with some alternative software, as the stock fans use proprietary connections so the Light Wings fans had to be either modded or connected to a motherboard standard 4-pin PWM header, we chose the latter solution and controlled fan speed using Argus Monitor.

Thermal/Noise Performance Testing

To simulate GPU thermal demand, we run the 3DMark Time Spy Extreme stress test simultaneously in a loop for 30 minutes to fully load the graphics card. This allows enough time to reach constant steady-state component temperature. With this data, we can compare how the system handles the thermal demand and measure peak noise levels.

Thermal performance is measured using various fan configurations to determine the optimal thermal performance and noise levels. During testing, only stock case fans are used unless otherwise specified. All water pumps and CPU cooler fans are set to a fixed RPM, so as not to interfere with noise level results when only testing the GPU.

Data shown in the charts represent the average component temperature as measured by HWiNFO, the final 15 minutes of the data are calculated to get the average. The ambient temperature during thermal tests is between 18-20⁰C.

Noise levels are measured by placing a noise meter 300mm from the front of the chassis/test bench while the stress test is running and the peak noise level during the test is recorded. The noise floor (ambient noise level) in the room is 36dBA.

Performance Overview:

Looking at the thermal performance, GPU temperature is very very similar with both the stock Sapphire fans and the be quiet! Light Wings installed. At their maximum 2400 rpm speed, both sets of fans are evenly matched with just a 1°C separating them which we can put down to being within the margin of error.

When we turn our attention to noise output, this is where the be quiet! Light Wings come into their own. As you can see there is a significant reduction in noise levels using the be quiet! Light Wings at a fixed 1300 rpm compared with the stock Sapphire fans. A drop of 6dBA is significant at 1300 rpm, the Light Wings are only a couple of decibels above the noise floor in our testing environment, which means they are barely audible. At maximum rpm, there is a huge difference between the Light Wings fans and the stock Sapphire cooling setup.

There are several benefits to replacing the stock fans with alternatives such as the be quiet! Light Wings. System aesthetics are improved as all the system fans now match so RGB synchronisation is improved. The be quiet! fans run at lower noise levels while providing comparable thermal performance and because of how Sapphire configured the card's cooling, changing the fans and configuring fan speed via a motherboard header and software means you can control the radiator fans independently of the GPU heat sink fan, which further reduces noise levels as in its stock configuration it isn't possible to configure radiator fan speed independently to the heatsink fan which can be quite loud.

Closing Thoughts

be quiet! has taken a cautious approach in delivering RGB products and we are absolutely fine with that. For example you may have noted the Pure Base 500DX case introduced RGB lighting at the front and also came with a Mesh panel which has a double function of flowing air and giving you a view inside the front of the case.

That works so much better than using tempered glass that blocks air flow and now we have matching ARGB fans we can see them in all their glory. It is a similar story with these new Light Wings fans which ignore legacy 12V lighting and move directly to 5V Addressable RGB. Furthermore they use a conventional ARGB plug that is directly compatible with the headers on your motherboard so you don't have to faff around with proprietary connectors or work with third party RGB software.

In our build we used a selection of Light wings fans in 120mm and 140mm sizes and found they were easy to install, had accurate PWM control and operated at reasonably low noise levels. The headline feature is the ARGB lighting, and we like the use of a standard ARGB connection and the way each fan has lighting on both the front and the back.

KitGuru says: be quiet!  Light Wings add ARGB lighting to a decent product stack of fans which leaves Noctua as the final RGB Heathen.

It's starting to look like every CPU cooler manufacturer will be offering Intel LGA1700 mounting kits for those upgrading to an Alder Lake-S processor. This week, be quiet! and Phanteks joined the growing list.

With the increase in the size of the Intel LGA1700 socket, cooler manufacturers had to create new mounting brackets to support the upcoming processors. If you are upgrading to Intel 12th Gen, then in most cases, all you'll need to do is provide proof of purchase and you'll get new mounting hardware sent out to you at no charge.

On the Phanteks side, all Glacier One AIO liquid coolers are eligible for the mounting kit upgrade. The list is significantly longer for be quiet! with supported coolers including:

  • Dark Rock Pro 4
  • Dark Rock 4
  • Dark Rock Slim
  • Dark Rock TF 2
  • Shadow Rock 3
  • Shadow Rock Slim 2
  • Shadow Rock LP
  • Pure Rock 2
  • Pure Rock
  • Silent Loop 2 (not available in the USA)
  • Pure Loop

Both companies stated they will start shipping the kits in November. In the future, Phanteks and be quiet! coolers will include all the accessories to mount the cooler on Intel LGA1700 sockets. Phanteks owners will want to head over to the official website and contact support to claim their mounting kit. For be quiet!, you'll want to head over to their dedicated LGA1700 page and fill out the form, HERE.
